I'm not sure what that even means. Just like many things in life, you pay extra for quality, craftsmanship, exclusivity, rarity, etc. Just like people that wear $10,000 watches every day, or walk in $300 shoes, or drive $130,000 cars… some people just like nice things. Benchmade knives are made in the US so they cost a bit more. Plus they have a pretty good warranty service.
I regularly carry $600-$800 pocket knives for no other reason than I like to. I still enjoy carrying Benchmade and Spyderco knives as well. Expensive knives hold their value well also and I often sell or trade them or others.

The problem is that they'd all be way too expensive when they're already overpriced. Example, I bought a Bugout and then put titanium scales and bronze backspacer from Rockscale which were an additional $145. With the knife being $171, you're now looking at $316+ for a Bugout.
