Seriously? Only someone who doesn't need a knife would buy this knife at this price...

I'm not sure what that even means. Just like many things in life, you pay extra for quality, craftsmanship, exclusivity, rarity, etc. Just like people that wear $10,000 watches every day, or walk in $300 shoes, or drive $130,000 cars… some people just like nice things. Benchmade knives are made in the US so they cost a bit more. Plus they have a pretty good warranty service.

I regularly carry $600-$800 pocket knives for no other reason than I like to. I still enjoy carrying Benchmade and Spyderco knives as well. Expensive knives hold their value well also and I often sell or trade them or others.

My buddy who spends thousands of dollars on custom golf clubs and a custom golf cart with aluminum trailer was making fun of my Benchmade, SpyderCo and Zero Tolerance collection. Screw him. He's not touching my collection. Work hard, play hard, MYOB.

Nah.. still not worth it. the nice thing about these knifes is their opening mech. Their patent recently expired, so you can get this mech on many other knives now with comparable metal at a third of the sale price.. not unless you like the brand names.. for show, not go.

I'd be a lot more into this deal with better steel.

I like Benchmade knives and own quite a few, but I don't like plastic handle that this one has.

+1, I replaced the atrocious plastic handles on my Griptilian with aluminum ones from Applied Weapons Tech and it's now my favorite knife. Looks and feels glorious. I don't understand why Benchmade doesn't offer their knives with such scales - I feel like they'd sell a lot more that way.

The problem is that they'd all be way too expensive when they're already overpriced. Example, I bought a Bugout and then put titanium scales and bronze backspacer from Rockscale which were an additional $145. With the knife being $171, you're now looking at $316+ for a Bugout.
