If you can wait, you should be able to find a better deal. 6" isn't very thick. You want at least 8". I ordered one on a slickdeals from an ebay seller a couple months ago. It was 10" twin for $88.

Excuse the ignorance, but is this the kind of mattress that you don't need a boxspring for, or perhaps the thicker ones don't need a boxspring, maybe it's all just preference?

No need for box spring, but need good bottom support. The slats cannot be more than 3" apart, otherwise, need a bunkie board

How are those? How firm are they? Just purchased a mattress from Walmart(not the one in this deal) and I had to return because it was too soft. Need something medium firm at least.
This ebay seller accepts returns but not sure if once opened and expanded? Also I would have to pay shipping it back

I would call it medium. I believe they rate it a 6 out of 10 in firmness and that sounds about right. Trust me, you don't want to try to return these things. It would be a nightmare. Mine expanded almost fully within an hour although I let it sit for 24 hours before using it just in case. It's pretty nice and no odor at all.
