They are not supposed to reduce credit if there is no case. If they are doing this to you, ask them why. They can only do so if the game itself is damaged.
If they insist, take your trades elsewhere or call and report it so it doesn't happen again.
Perhaps I was thinking of the long defunct GameCrazy?
You're correct though, thanks for the correction. GS doesn't have disc only trade values on their site, though some games that came bundled with an accessory (like Wii Play Motion) do have "game only" values listed.
That was a decent deal but I think I was already out of the GCU ecosystem by then since the elimination of the coupons coupled with them nerfing the discount to not work on Black Friday prices just turned me off the program. It didn't help that my local stores seriously reduced their in store inventory.
It also didn't help that their trade in program was seriously bad by then too. The values made Gamestop look generous by comparison and they never did promotions anymore.
They still had their moments a few times in the past few years but those are few and far between.
I've never had a game's trade in value reduced for not having the case. If a disc or cartridge is damaged, they will reject it outright, but if they accept it you get the full value.
Actually if the disc is damaged in some way that can be repaired they will charge you a refurbishing fee. I traded a 360 game with a laser burn ring and they accepted it but they charged me a $3 fee for the refurb(which is taxed).
Thanks OP! I traded in a mix of old Wii, Wii U, 360, PS2, PS4 and Switch games that were collecting dust. I'm sure I could have sold them for more on my own but I don't have time for that. Made enough to buy a PS5 for $100 out of pocket. Great deal for my situation.
The surprise in the pile of games was Xenoblade Chronicles for Wii U at $30 trade in value.
Made one last hurrah with this deal when I bought 10 loose (no case) PS4 games for $20 off a guy from FB Marketplace today and traded them in for almost $130 in store credit. It was fun while it lasted.

Yeah but you had to interact with a guy who keeps 10 loose PS4 games around the house and I don't want to meet the psychotic who does such a thing.
I went in and traded 12 PS4/PS5 games which ended up returning $203 to me. I never trade in games anymore but I was surprised at the values I was getting. A couple titles I actually came out getting $10-15 more than I paid such as Hogwarts. I didnt give up anything that I can't buy cheaper now or in the future. For instance, I nearly got the $30 back I paid for RE4. Later in the year or next, it's likely that I can rebuy it for less if I feel the need and possibly get a "Gold" or complete edition like Capcom did with RE Village. I'll just be saving the $203 to put towards a PS5 Pro
Yesterday was the last day. Deal is unfortunately dead. The current promo is an extra 20% trade in credit when it is applied toward the pre-order of any new game.

I got rid of around 32 games myself. That got me about $276. Another customer that was there bought 25 others from me for $100. I ended up combining that and the $276 from the trade with another $75 trade credit I had and grabbed a PS5 slim for around $18 out of pocket.
Most of my stuff were break even or even a profit (Hogwarts).
I don't understand how people still shop at these stores... they are terrible and overpriced! I'm certain that I can keep my games and still find a just as cheap option to buy, from almost anyone else. So, I would spend the same amount of money and still keep my old games. If they then sell your old games, you'll be ahead of Game Stop's best options... Hate these stores!
Y don't you resell your digital games then, or buy a used digital game.... That's right .. you can't...

I don't understand your comment. I don't usually get digital games and there are tons of other options to sell your physical games than going to GameStop. What were you talking about?

GCU was purely icing on the cake LOL
