There's a pattern with Tesla threads here. I don't care if you all wanna discuss the deal or the cars but it always turns into paaaages and paaaages of bickering back and forth and nobody ,except for the few involved, enjoy that or wanna wade through that. So cut that stuff out, please and thank you.
FYI just because it says "New" doesn't mean it qualifies for the 7500 tax credit. Demo models are new but do not qualify for 7500. If the specific inventory item qualifies it will directly say it on the site.

I thought about a Tesla until I looked at insurance rates and estimated damage repair costs.
I think they are fine vehicles but the math doesn't shake out for my use case.
I do appreciate the fact Tesla lowering their prices has forced the other brands to lower theirs. The entry price on some of these EV's is just ludicrous.

The new rule in 2024 is that the 7500 tax credit is applied at point of service. unlike in previous years, now you can get the 7500 discount on the car at time of sale and if you don't have tax liability, you still don't actually have to pay back the 7500. So yes, if you're 16-year-old is able to file taxes, regardless of income (even $0 income), he will be able to get the credit from Tesla when buying under his name.
That's interesting, I was under the impression you would have to pay it back if you didn't qualify. What if you exceed the income limits?
Looks like some demo cars are being sold and those are considered new but most of the ones I've looked at through the link, have less than 100 miles on them. It's weird that demo cars are being sold for the same price, though.
Because your warranty starts with x miles. So from warranty standpoint you are not losing out but from used car value standpoint, you lost value.
same as back towards end of last year. Tesla raised the price for the Y and then did these inventory discount. not much has changed.
I still feel bad for those who bough in 22. Model y Performance were $70K+ and people bought it without hesitation and a smile thinking cars would continue to appreciate. Overnight people learned they got bent over and used for $20-30K
That would be me……bought our MYP Jul '22 for quick delivery after watching gas prices start to hike that summer in CA.
Fast forward to early 2023 and watched that $20-$30K fly out the door.
I can't complain about the car itself…a fun drive for sure. I can complain that the continual PG&E rate hikes (to cover CA wildfire payouts) drove my monthly home charging cost through the roof.
When I saw that Hertz off-loaded their entire Tesla fleet a few months ago, I decided to get something for mine while I still could.
Leased an ID4 with free 3 year charging. Where I live, the EA network is mostly reliable, although never as seamless as the Tesla Superchargers. VW gave us just enough $$$ to payoff our Tesla loan. I saw that they ended up selling it for that same price two months later.
I'll wait to see how the EV market stabilizes over the next three years before taking a next step. I'll be watching the Dodge Ramcharger PHEV to see if the range is as predicted.
I see more and more teslas out there for sure. It struck me as a good car. HOWEVER, after my Tesla experience I always look behind me before I bend over! 😝😝

If you charge at home with PG&E, your price would be about 50 cents per kWh, your cost per mile is 16 cents. Suggest you look around for super charging. My Tesla super charge station costs 14 cents per kWh after 8pm. Even peak is just 29 cents ,way lower than PG&E.
Without solar, PG&E charge cost is higher than gas.

I salute to Tesla fans to pay tens of thousands of dollars to test for Tesla, real cult.
Sorry offending if you are, I bought a new X/. But my comment is based on my unbiased opinion.
