I recently picked up the Logitech MX Keys for Mac from Amazon for $80 (new, sold by Amazon) which IS backlit and uses USB C. Granted, no Touch ID - but if you can find the MX Keys on sale, it is quite a bit cheaper (even at this $150 sale price). It definitely seems like a solid alternative (with backlighting!).
Touch ID is incredibly convenient (for login, online passwords, purchases, etc.), and is honestly (for me) worth the increased price by itself. Also, I found the slight alterations in the Logitech layout frustrating. Because the Esc is smaller, the F1-12 keys (which I use for work and some gaming) are offset differently, which confuses my brain and I end up having to look down to make sure I hit the correct key. Also, the modifier keys are changed around on the Logitech, which makes shortcuts require more thinking as opposed to just being muscle memory.
The Apple keyboard is pretty much exactly the same as typing on my MacBook keyboard, from the ways the keys sound, to their depth, and the spacing of the layout itself. I don't ever have to think about which keyboard I'm using. I guess if backlight and USB-C are hard requirements, then this is not the keyboard for you. But I never work in the dark and don't mind having an extra lightning cable that I pull out once a month to charge the keyboard, so it was never a major problem. But the issued I mentioned above definitely were.

I can't fathom why they don't bring that feature, and we have to use 3rd party alternatives.
Possible anyone knows of a app or utility to change the "Caps Lock" timing so Any brand keyboard has a user defined or similar to apples delay to lock?
I clicked the link to find out what, precisely, makes this "Magic," especially in light of the aforementioned MX Keys (my daily driver since it's release and, while a bit of a splurge, an excellent little piece of kit).
And now I have my answer. The "Magic" is of the bullet/Scientology variety. In other words, utter BS.
How TF is this front page on The Ghost of the Once Venerable SD?
SlickJimee, time will vindicate thee...
This is extra stupid for a standalone keyboard because the thinness has absolutely no use there. It's not wrapped inside a laptop so why make it so thin at a huge sacrifice?
Will customer service at Costco do price match with Apple at $190 instead of $150 for a keyboard so I can pay the full price?
I know the best keyboards out there are at $80 but they are better, so please understand that as an Apple fanboy I can't allow my fingers to type on anything that's not designed by Apple and not paid at full overpriced price.
Bro you having a stroke or something?

Gotta keep up with the cleaning on this one or the black keys start to get shiny.
I use this and it charges full in couple of hrs and never been in a situation where I need it to charge fast as I never carry around they keyboard. Genuinely curious why it bothers people this being non USB C. Yes..it's pricy and there are good alternates. Not questioning that.

Macbook and mac mini, usb c,
Iphone usb c,
Airpods 2nd gen usb c
ipad usb c.
It would be nice if everything else is cohesively usb-c, especially for such an expensive ecosystem already.

Apple keyboards are unmatched when it comes to typing and it helps with productivity over the long run. More than pays itself. Apple products in general more than pays for itself if you're using it for work and something useful. Saves so much time. Facts.
