I've owned both and used both quite a bit. They are both really great and I have no issues using either. Buttons and sticks are wonderful all around no matter which you use.

It's literally what you'd expect when comparing the two: one is slightly larger but slightly more comfortable. One is slightly smaller and slightly less comfortable.

The larger one didn't fit in any normal switch case for me, so I went to the smaller one. I definitely prefer the larger one's comfort but not enough to sacrifice the size and portability.

So whatever is more important to you you should go with. I doubt even if you choose the "wrong one" for you, you're not even going to be upset enough to know that you did 😂

Lacks gyro, rumble, battery and NFC. At this price point though, it's a justifiable sacrifice compared to joy cons.

My son and I like these wayyy better than joy con for travel. When docked, we use pro controllers. I literally sold my joy cons. No use for them with these and 3 pro controllers

I got for $22.88 after rewards or something. Will definitely try at that price due to a recent drift issue on my joy con.

Plus I despise motion control, so I'm only losing rumble since I only play handheld.

Never tried the smaller ones, but I have the original larger ones and found the same problem regarding cases. I found a generic case for a SteamDeck and that worked well (without the inserts - now unavailable, but it was this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09QQNDG1S).

I only play with the Horis in portable mode, and as one other member mentioned, use the Pro controller when docked.

My favorite joy con clones, I already have this one but bought another for my original Switch. Hands down the most comfortable joy con replacement there is. I have owned the Split Pad Pro (poor quality, sticks were bad), original joy cons, nitro deck and retro flag and these Split Pad Compacts are better than all of them, even the original joy cons. Comfortable, responsive, and quality.

I've owned two sets and they both just stopped working. Hori was good about replacement but the replacement units stick was just wondering out of the box. Otherwise we love the ergonomics of these over the joycons

Can this be removed and used like a regular controller (like xbox) so when playing on TV we could still use this controller ? my son is asking a second controller for multiplayer games.

Others may be able to say for sure but if I recall correctly these can't be used like that.

No, as the title mentions, it can only work in handheld mode. There is no rumble or battery in these controllers, so they must stay connected to the Switch itself for them to work

My review after playing with them for 10 minutes.

It works. I can't believe it. I have simply not been able to ever use handheld mode with the joy cons as my hands would cramp within a minute.

I played for 10 minutes with these attached and no cramping. I could tell it might start on a much longer play session, but successful 10 minute gaming without cramp.

Now the cons.

No rumble, kind of miss it.
Doesn't fit in my case. So now do I buy a new case?? I haven't tried taking them off and putting in extra space in case yet. Maybe an option there.

Or now that the world of handheld mode has opened up to me, do I look for a set of these with rumble and a bigger case for that....Anyone have suggestion on next better set of split controller for these with rumble and a case that would work? Or does the low price point of these just make them worth sticking to?

Answering my own questions after a bit of research.

Looks like next available option is the Mobapad M6 HD at $79.99.
https://www.mobapad.com/products/mobapad-m6-hd

Or the Doyoky Epoch at $64.99.

Hmm. Do I care that much.
