Upon crash-landing on Earth, an alien space traveler takes on the appearance of a young widow's husband, and enlists her help to get across the country and avoid the authorities. As the government tracks them down, the unlikely pair begin to bond.
This film is definitely in the top five of John Carpenter's filmography. The other four in no particular order - The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China, Escape From New York and They Live.
Dark Star and Assault on Precinct 13 are great too. All of his 70s and 80s movies are classics in my opinion. I never get tired of watching any of them
I never knew Starman was a John Carpenter. Huh. Great movie!

Now I don't remember if I loved some of those because of John Carpenter or Kurt Russell! BTILC is one of my favorite movies of all time - that or Fifth Element. I love the sense of humor in those films that I haven't seen in a long time.
Carpenter put together some classic movies for the time that are still watchable today but Kurt Russell made those roles iconic. BTW love your pic of Enik. As a child of the 70's I grew up on Marty and Crofft productions and Land of the Lost was at the top of list.
I'm watching it on Netflix now. I recall watching it quite a bit back then.
There's also a Starman tv series with Robert Hayes. As a kid, I really enjoyed that show as as well. However, it doesn't seem to be available anywhere for streaming or purchase.
SPOILER WARNING
My favorite part of this movie is how they blend it into the Alien universe, at the end when the face hugger latches onto Jeff Bridges girlfriends face and he has to battle it off.

To this day, I have not forgotten the boy singing: "Oranges Smoranges, who said, there ain't no rhyme for oranges".
