Decent price. Costco is selling the same system without the graphics card for $700 (they claim it's a $300 discount [costco.com]).

Literally on the page is the ability to upgrade the PSU for $50 - to a very good PSU. And add liquid cooling (that they use on the K series) for another $50.

Dells have issues, but the PSU and cooling problems you guys are mentioning are literal options you can change direct from Dell before you order - I don't even think you clicked the link.

Going forward in your life, you should understand and learn to know that you aren't as smart as you think you are and this is making you overconfident.

Thanks. Can you explain how Capital One Shopping app works? Is it the browser add on? Do I just sign up and then they start to send offers?
Gdog2004they sent you a coupon via email ? did have an extension on your browser ?
It's a browser extension you have to install, but they also send you emails. I installed it because it will apply known promo codes at check out of most sites, and it has saved me a few hundred dollars over the years.

It is a bit invasive as I said though as they send very targeted emails to you based on items you have looked at before if they have some new discount or if the item has a price drop.

The Dell XPS offer they sent was an email. and I honestly have not idea how to "trigger" the app to send you that email if you did install the extension. I'm not an expert here, but I don't think anyone can send you a copy of their email either as the email has a link to the retailers site that you have to use, and I believe they use the URL to credit your account specifically (I could be mistake on how this works, however).

Anyone know what this is expandable to? I'm looking for a new home server. I'd want to wipe Windows off of it and replace it with Ubuntu, add RAM and add storage, either SSD or hard drives. Anyone know what the most RAM & disk I can cram in there is? Right now I have 4x8 TB SATA disks on an old ThinkServer and my photography biz and Plex server is running it out of space.

Take note that not only does the 8960 not include an optical drive, but the case doesn't even have a slot in the front where one could be added. To me that's shortcoming for a supposedly high end gaming and media desktop. If I wanted to have to connect external peripherals, I'd buy a laptop.
Actually seems like that is becoming more common, but I would prefer to have the slot also.

It has one as an add-on option, so I am betting there is a slot for it. Dell usually uses plastic blanks in the front cover for a clean look. You can pop off the front cover and reveal the actual mounting slots in the metal case. There must be one (at least to accommodate a slim CD/DVD drive) as that is what they are offering.

Dell Mobo's WORK. I've had XPS computers for 15 plus years...never had an issue with any of them. Never any overheating...never any problems.
Go back to overclocking and setting your room on fire.

I happen to have it and can't recommend it.

There are no user fan control options. Models tend to rev up very loudly when opening up a few Chrome tabs. It's literally the loudest computer I've ever heard.

There's a ton of bloatware that steal more than 3GB from your 16GB of RAM. Yes, you can delete it but it's a hassle, especially when the usual MS and McAfee junk is already there.

The Killer wi-fi card give me issues with certain VPNs (IPVanish)

I love when people talk out of their ass in a thread for hours. Single slot dual fan 4080s exist.
yeah, indeed. Single-slot 4080s don't exist. Dual-slot (as opposed to typical triple-slot) do

Worth upgrading if I currently have a 3060? And worth spending a bit extra for 3070?
probably not, especially paying extra for 3070 that is going to be two generations old GPU in about half a year

I love watching the nerds argue on topics like this..
Some of these guys are NOT nerds and are just talking out there ***es.

The power supply is fine for this exact computer's specification.

This computer was not meant to be upgraded AT ALL. Dell sells you those at a premium.

If someone from Dell, or more likely a third party hired by Dell, comes to your house and replaces a motherboard and blames it on the power supply without replacing the power supply that tech either:
1. Didn't like you and wants you to suffer
2. Lied to you so they didn't have to continue talking to you anymore.
3. Is terrible at their job.

You don't need a 1000w power supply for 99% of home computers regardless of what is in them due to advances in efficiency.

The only REAL way to upgrade this system is to replace the proprietery motherboard so you can use a standard case, standard power supply, etc and, you guessed it, that makes absolutely no sense when you can build your own PC at that point.

This computer is good for 90% of people and will never have a problem, 5% know what they are getting and understand the compromises for the price and will never complain, and 5% know very little and wonder why they didn't get a Ferrari when they paid Kia prices but don't realize they aren't even going to be going over 45mph anyway and will complain about it until they get educated later in life.

Thinking I may pull the trigger.

I will likely upgrade to the 4070, and likely upgrade to 32 gb ram in the near future. I don't see me upgrading this again until I buy a new rig 4+ years down the road.

That said, is a PSU upgrade a must in that context? Is the 750W sufficient, or would the 4070 require 1000W (not trying to future proof beyond the 4070 / 32 gb ram upgrads)? Would really appreciate any input on this!
I would go one upgrade path up on the power supply. I read in the thread earlier but I'm a few drinks in and don't feel like searching.

Somewhere around a 600w, and the most important thing, and platinum efficiency and you'll be just fine.

Everyone knew dell was garbage since at least some time around 94. Then non tech people started buying computers an somehow they are great gaming powerhouses now. Kim Kardashian an friends is also high quality to the masses. An Santa clause an Nasa an musk work together to build the best space sleighs according to them. Doesn't mean they are right.

Dell even did the Apple move of disabling things around year 2 an the support is dead at year 2 so they don't have to fix it.

Also let's not forget Slickdeals sold out; became a corporate junk drop off an more, an lost most their base around 2019.

I'd say a trailer park that sells rusted out an painted over trailers for 5% cheaper than others on a lot that dupont used to dump waste chemicals on is not the best looking living choice but I wouldnt tell that to the people living there cause dem might be fighting words 😝

Probably should build your own an not gamble with e-machine or dell motherboards/sound/usb ports. I mean unless this is to run a businesses cash register. Seems way over priced for that tho. An if it needs a working USB port to run the cash register. We'll you may be put $1k still
Wow, nothing says silver spoon in my ass like this does.

This is the same model that I'm using right now, bought from a similar Slickdeal here from January. I upgraded the PSU to the 600w, doubled the memory to 32GB, and the SSD to 1TB. It had an AmEx deal, so all-in was just over $1,000. Moved over all my old HDDs, a use same desk rig, monitors, and speakers. Works like a supercomputer. You can tell that GPU makes all the difference in audiovisual quality. Would buy again, 10/10.
