Be aware that these are the base M1 models with binned 7-core GPUs, only 2 ports and no touchID on the keyboard. I'd personally recommend spending the extra &100 on the 8-core GPU model with 4 ports and touchID (as well as Ethernet on the power cable).

Amazing deal for an incredible screen, dead silent operation, and fast speeds all around for non-gamers (and even some games are starting to appear for MacOS!!).

The only question: If it's worth another $50 to get the (admittedly, orange only) model with touchID (easier logins and authentications), 1/8th more GPU grunt, 2 more USBC ports, and an ethernet port in the power supply (which is surprisingly convenient!)

I'd say it IS worth another $50 for most people: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/imac...22Deals%22

(Just click on M1 8 Core and then the orange color to see the $850 price)

The best 'deal' is probably open box M1 8 GPU-core (touchID) for $800, excellent condition. That would be worth getting…

Pulled the trigger and bought this iMac. Our current iMac is a 2011. Thanks.

8GB Memory - 256GB SSD

Same specs my PC had in 2014. Enjoy your new Mac.
I really believe most of you all do not understand how unified memory architecture makes the access times so much faster since the ram is on the same die as the SoC. It's due to the far smaller access times that 8GB of unified RAM is still far better then just having larger memory but have to go through mother board bus lines to the pics of a completely different silicon part which sits quite a distance away.

If you need proof that this is much better, then ask yourself why AMD, Intel, (I'd assume Qualcomm) are all working on adopting this methodology

Low voltage networking, sure. An I-MAC isn't exactly low voltage.
The iMac power supply is 15.9V. PoE is much higher.

They don't use RAM the same way.
Agreed - and while I make my living supporting Windows and Linux, I have to say Mac OS does a great job with memory management. It just comes back to the whole optimization thing. Microsoft by design has to support thousands of hardware combinations… Mac, in spite of its higher cost and the Apple tax, is made just for their own specific hardware. Fewer drivers to include in the OS and much less overhead compared to Windows. Windows on Arm is another thing altogether… if Qualcomm's new Elite chip translates the synthetic performance to real-world, Apple may finally have some competition from Redmond.

I literally vomited in my mouth 2 weeks ago at the Pawn America in Fridley MN. I was in line to checkout 2 Blu-ray movies and the older Somalian lady in front of me was checking out. She was buying a 24" iMac with a dual-core Intel Core i5 and there were dents/dings all over the computer. Total came out to ~$760 after tax and the clerk suggested she buy some $80 protection plan....for which she happily obliged. So she spent almost $1000 for a super ancient and dinged up iMac. I kindly walked back to the movies section 14 ft away, threw it back on rack, and walked out.
Literally? Someone's purchase not only made you throw up over their deal, but you lost all interest in your own Blu-Ray purchase?

Seems extreme. Dings are just cosmetic, some don't care, and maybe it was urgently needed for Boot Camp so had to go Intel.

I could, literally, watch someone light the first comic of Spider-Man with a collectible $1K bill and not bat an eye.

Let me know if you see a difference. I have mid 2011 iMac and saw no difference at all. I returned it. I upgraded my mid 2011 with SSD drive and max 20gb ram. Maybe that was the difference.
Without doubt this guy is trolling.

I bought my wife an M1 MacBook Pro and was impressed. M1 feels as fast as my 5900x 64GB 4TB NVMe at anything web based, which is practically everything today. Great performance in anything Adobe as well.

512gb is $899 add the full M1 chip with 8-core and it's $999

I would at least get the 512gb for $899

Why? 2TB 1GB/s SSD is $150 or less. What's the issue with just doing that with the $800 orange OB model with 4 ports?

Was at this price for a while. The only concern is the ram being not upgradable. Ssd is no biggie, you can always buy external.

Haven't you heard? Every single one of the thousands/millions of these iMac cables sold since they were released 3 years ago have burned every single house they were ever in... to the ground! It's a global epidemic! You definitely, definitely can easily find countless reports on these cables causing hellfire in the news, considering how incredibly, incredibly dangerous running Ethernet cabling anywhere near any electrical wiring definitely, definitely is.

That's why everyone knows the most dangerous things in the known universe are... data centers. If these iMac cables that have an absolutely insane 2-foot run of Ethernet/electrical inside basic, insulated, shared housing are capable of burning down a house (which, again, they definitely, definitely are), then the dozens-to-hundreds of Ethernet and electrical cables running packed in next to each other behind the walls of these incredibly dangerous and irresponsible data centers means that just a single server room in one data center could rip the Earth apart into individual atoms at any moment.

God help us all.

Yeah, because Apple never cuts corners. Remember the antenna issues they had with their I-Phone a while back (I think version 4)?
The antenna issue was a design flaw, not a cost cutting measure. To be fair Apple has had a few more product design flaws and misses since then -- the butterfly keyboard comes to top of mind, but there are others too. But for whatever unintentional misses some Apple products may have had it has a better record making quality products than its competitors who intentionally make a lot of junk for a low price point.

And please don't talk to me about how Windows machines are a better value. This Dell Inspiron 24" all-in-on with 8GB RAM and an Intel Core 5 proc [dell.com] is the exact same price. I can guarantee you the iMac is a better build quality. For one the iMac has a 4K screen and the Dell has a FHD from probably back when the iPhone 4 came out.

Apple is waiting too long for the firmware update for the M1-M3 chip. The performance crippling is probably worse then the 25% predicted from experts.

either way, this is e-garbage because of its ram
Not sure why people keep getting negative feedback on legit comments. This is spot on.

If you guys don't like the speed of the mouse, even at full speed, go to terminal and type
" defaults write -g com.apple.mouse.scaling 6.0" into terminal (without quotes), hit enter, reboot the machine.

I don't remember but I think default should be 4.0, some people run it as high as 7.0

I had the same problem, but we got a Mac Studio when it was on sale at Costco for 1500. Double the cost for sure and sans monitor but way more capable. Depends on your needs which fits best.

It's just super disappointing to see they haven't updated the 27" or come out with a larger size for so many years.
