Have this exact one. It's not the best quality and is very flimsy when opening / closing it.

If you use it once a year it's fine. But if you plan on using this frequently, I would look elsewhere or find a better quality used carrier on marketplace.

It keeps it closed but I wouldn't hide gold bars inside it overnight. I agree with chickas post that it's flimsy and not rigid but it serves its purpose of carrying things to save space.

Good for occasional use. The lock feels ok, good enough to prevent it from pop open on highway

I was going to buy this a few weeks ago and pay full price $399 for our beach trip in June. Awesome deal!

I have this and it is worth more than this price. I recently took it to a trip to the mountains and it fit everything we packed. I highly recommend this. If I had another suv, I would get this again.

Great product, we used this from 2020 - 2022 and it was solid, easily worth this money. Not as high quality as Thule or others but it's only a fraction of the price and provided a lot more cargo space.

Completely agree. I got one from the last deal and have a bit of regret. But we will only use it a couple of times a year max so will stick with this. I would probably buy a Yakima or Thule if I wanted something more secure or regular use.

At this price, I think it's still worth considering. I would never pay full price for this.

yes it does, hitch carrier is more efficient if that's an option

Yes, significantly. Hitch mounted carrier is probably better for mpg but also requires hitch, can interfere with lift gate, may obstruct backup camera, can be more convenient for opportunistic thieves. May obstruct rear license plate which I see people doing all the time.

To answer a couple of questions:
Mileage: Your gas mileage will be significantly impacted (we went from 30mpg to around 23 mpg on average). No real impact on noise, that'll be more determined by the rails/cross-bar you attach to the car (we used some aluminum HVAC tape to reduce this on the brand we had).
Security: The lock on this (and the general security of it) is pretty flimsy. While the cargo box never broke in the 2 years we had it, you would never put anything particularly valuable there unattended.

Academy has an aluminum hitch carrier (750lb!) I just picked up for $99. Much easier to deal with vs roof boxes. Very light vs steel versions, and built pretty well. Thats normal price, but its 2X or more on other websites. Just 4 screws to assemble...
