This exact configuration on best buy NEW is 1049.99 and open box from 911. So this isnt too bad of a price. Its a hard sell though at any price. These surfaces need keyboards that are often sold separately. The form factor is the selling point but realize it is not enjoyable in your lap while in your lap or tummy in bed. In bed, your most creative ideas happen. Writing a novel, doing excel spreadsheets for financing etc, opening up an etsy store, light programming, messing around with AI when bored. Take all this into consideration. I had a 7+ pro for a few weeks before deciding to return it at best buy.

16gb of ram? 256gb ssd?

The rest of the specs seem nice, until you hit those vestiges that remind me of a mid-tier machine from 2013. I at least had a 16gb/512gb laptop back then. But what can we say, shrinkflation? Applications are always getting smaller and more efficient, right?!
What do you think you need 32GB of memory for in a tablet? Blow my mind here...

I'll give you the SSD though; for such a premium device, that's limited in on the go expansion options, it really should be coming with 512GB-1TB considering how cheap solid state storage is currently.

Glad to hear that. I considered the Surface Pro X back in the day, and it was not very good reviewers said.

It is terrible with the bad x86 emulation support and was not until 2024 that chrome released the browser officially. It was bad.

I will try ARM based surface X when the new Snapdragon X chip is released and pray x86 emulation is better. Not betting on more software vendors going to full Windows ARM route yet

No one over the age of 6 should use the word "tummy" unless speaking with someone under the age of 6.

The SL3-6 and SLS1/2 are awesome machines. The SPs? Just the stupidest devices with the worst keyboards.

Windows and tablet don't belong in the same sentence together. Same for Android. Only one company has done "tablets" right, that's Apple, period. The iPad dominates the market for a reason.

It's a stripped down Windows laptop with a removable keyboard (a must) pretending to be a tablet. The OS is simply not suitable for a tablet. If you want a Windows 11 laptop with a removable keyboard, then there are many other options under $1000 under 4lbs.

An LG Gram. And please use the word stomach like an adult.

This isn't a tablet, it's a laptop in a tablet shape. It's a laptop with a detachable keyboard. No one I know, and I mean literally no one, uses Windows as a "tablet" like they would an I-Pad.

No one I know uses an ipad (android tablets) that doesn't mean no one does, lol.

Agreed that it is a niche product. Great for work though, but not for on the-go use. I turned my SP4 into a fridge door tablet, for recipes and YT videos. As you said it is a hard sell, but it is even harder resell, almost no trade-in value at MS.

Search ebay, filter sold items.
Tons of sp9 new/open box cheaper as long as you can spend time fishing. Really no point going with this used item due to unknown battery wear versus new.

Would this be a meaningful upgrade to my Surface Pro 7? My SP 7 has a 10th Gen i5, 8GB or RAM (which is its achilles heel) and 256GB SSD (which is also barely adequate). Or should I wait to see what Microsoft has in store in June when this mystical, completely redesigned Surface Pro 11 with ARM is supposed to appear with its magical 15 hour (for real this time!) battery life? Theoretically ARM chips should be cheaper than x86 CPUs in the long run. Although they may be more expensive initially.
Pcworld.com and notebookcheck.net extensive reviews to compare performance, battery, etc.

Experts: what's the oldest, cheapest, windows surface I can buy. I have a house full of Mac's and about once a year I need windows for a cash back extension or something. Literally maybe 4 mins a year. Surface 4 m3? Last time I wanted to format a usb drive for windows and couldn't

Do these still have SD card slots? SD cards are super cheap anymore and I've found they are great way to add slow, non-critical storage to my old tablet (it only had a 128gb SSD). It's great for dumping some videos/music for travel.

Even if it's 99% there, many big corporates don't even upgrade to even the next x86 Windows version for 4-5 years. That's how long they think it takes for the new Windows to become fully reliable. Most still run Windows 10. I doubt they will jump to Windows on ARM anytime soon.
