This one seems to suffer from the same pitfalls of the HP Pavilion TP01 with just a little bigger PSU. Seems like a little larger case but the upgrade options are still pretty slim.

I choose the HP Pavilion TP01 over this one mostly because of all the USB connections (9 total) and the smaller form factor.

Go 12400 if you're going to run a dedicated gpu and 5600G if you're not, the 12400 looks to have a 10-20% gain in FPS with a higher end GPU over the 5600G.

Both CPUs are similar with the 5600G winning out in most things but dGPU gaming, likely due to the slower pcie 3.0 speeds (vs 5.0) and lower lcache (16 vs 18).

Both will require a PSU upgrade if you go with a dGPU unless you run something really low end.

I want to get a new PC for a work computer. Mostly Zoom and MS Office and docs. Sometimes I will do some video transcoding. Which would be a better fit? This Acer or the HP Pavilion mentioned? I built a PC years ago with an i7700, but can't run windows 11 on it.

Not sure where you got the "can't run Windows 11 on it" from. If you mean I7 7700 then yes, Window 11 works perfectly fine. Just because Microsoft doesn't list it as officially supported doesn't mean anything.

I feel that this one:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/27601250...1WW1YQTWWE

....for $391.29, should be considered for the newer and faster processor, if you are planning to upgrade to 16 or 32 GB of RAM.

I've been running an Acer Aspire XC-1660G-UW92 that I got refurbished on a $202 Slickdeal, almost 2 years ago. That strip-model SFF has served me pretty well. I used to think Acer was garbage, but now I also bought one of their 28" 4k monitors. I'm living the dream, computing with Acer. I'm keeping an eye out for when my XC blows up.

So I can just install Windows 11 on my current PC? Do I need to modify anything?

Those SFF Acers are pretty bulletproof; I have 3 of them and they just keep going and going. About 16 years combined age between the 3 with zero failures. Two were refurbs and one I bought used but like new on eBay. My newest one is the same model you have, that I think I got for $200 refurbed. Don't be surprised if yours is still going 5 or even 10 years from now. One of mine has been running 24/7 for 6 years since I got it.

There is a way to bypass the windows 11 cpu or hardware requirements to install windows. This is how some folks can run windows 11 on 4th generation i7 chips. I don't the know the legality on it but it's doable. There are drawbacks. 8th generation chips and newer will have no issue getting windows 11.

I have a good friend, who is the head of IT at a company. He told me that upgrading to Windows 11 is a bad idea, so I have not. I was forced to upgrade my work laptop, and I don't like the problems I have experienced with it. Do people require Windows 11 for specific reasons?

I have a spare PSU and an Arc card sitting around I wonder if I can get anything cheaper than this to make a makeshift 1080p rig

Keep an eye on this page; they offer up 5 or so of these daily for $200 shipped, but they sell fast. It's a screaming deal if you can snag one.

You bet. Just refresh every now and then. You can see the number sold go up every day, which means thay're adding a few at a time. I've seen them in stock several times over the past few weeks.
