The market targeting those users attaching a PC to a TV has remained niche... and somehow has even shrunk from peak. At the same time, the target design requires accounting for a number of compromises. Both factors have likely resulted in limiting the number of innovative designs out there, since big companies (Logitech, Microsoft, etc.) can't be bothered and the small fry companies can't last enough to justify getting their (likely) patented snapped up and put on offer by one of the bigs.

I've owned a number of different models. I've settled on my K400r. Terrible little trackpad, but decent enough keyboard for limited use with battery life for months. As a bonus it works in the Logitech unifying receiver ecosystem. The media buttons are actually a constant source of frustration since in handling you're likely to set one off unintentionally (without a lot of feedback from the button that you've done something). Of the multitude of other designs I have kept around, Lenovo's mini-keyboard with trackball was great for blending in with other remotes and providing decent use as a cursor control... but that chiclet keyboard wasn't exactly Blackberry-level easy.

Perhaps the best compromise design I've seen are those which attempt to mimic a laptop style keyboard. Lenovo makes one with a TrackPoint nub for controlling the mouse, an interface I've used in the past so likely to work solidly enough for basic cursor control. Of course, best in my estimation gives a slightly higher priority to keyboarding. Most of my media PC usage involves some media management (searching or renaming files) with light navigation (going to a repository for content).

Good luck!
Jon
Wish MS made one with backlighting. There hasn't been a decent alternative since the Logitech K830 was discontinued.
I owned this keyboard for quite a while, I wish I would have listened to the reviews before buying it the first time. Worst microsoft product i've ever bought! Never would have imagine microsoft would build something of this type of quality resembling some chinese knock o. This keyboard would randomnly stopped working, key would get stuck easily and it would not response if any key was pressed, only guess is the internal card cant process many pressed keys at the same time, after almost 2 years of having the keyboard not working from time to time I decided to get rid of my missery and broke the thing into piece. I lasted almost 2 years trying to use this product with hit and miss from time to time, only reason I could stand using it was because i only used it for the tv and that was only when using the browser as my tv doesnt allow fluid mouse interactions I can only imagine the frustration someone trying to use this keyboard on a daliy basic with a pc. Better go with the similar logitech option for multimedia keyboard

I have 2 of these. One still in a box. Backlight and the Bluetooth is why i use it.
They are going for crazy prices on Ebay.
New was $99 on sale for $60 formn Logitech. Used ones are going for 60-80 and new ones anywhere from 130 to 400 on Ebay

If anyone is looking for a bluetooth alternative, I would highly recommend this keyboard (Amazon link below) -
Arteck Universal Backlit 7-Colors Bluetooth Touch TV Keyboard [a.co]

The build quality is very decent given the price (It's at its highest price now, but often goes for less than $30). And it works surprisingly well, and has good backlight. I bought it for use with my steam deck, and it's been an excellent purchase.

I can't find one that supports Linux well...And the number of "HTPC" keyboards that only support gestures and not edge scrolling is super annoying. You hold an HTPC keyboard with two hands...having to use two fingers for gesture scrolling ruins it.

Anyone w/ experience using this AiO KB+M (touchpad) know how well it performs compared to a Logitech K400 Plus Touchpad Keyboard?

I think it was expensive at 80 dollars, but it has been solid.

But it's a champ, no regret buying it for $45 years ago.
Thanks to you both, particularly for the detail on the price. I had not realized the level of discount represented by the current offer.

Good luck!

There is no "high end", that's the thing.
Aren't these primarily for using on a smart TV to search Netflix? If you need a high end keyboard and desktop track pad, apple makes those. Do they not work on windows?

Just confused why you would want that. Never heard of someone needing a high end keyboard for multimedia purposes

Does it have backlight? Didn't find it in description (for such an important feature).

I don't remember Logitech K400 has backlight or not.
The Logitech K830 has a back light and a more premium finish, but it is heavier and much more expensive. The K400 is a cheaply finished thing with NO BACKLIGHT, but is durable and does the job. I use both still, the K830 is the living room, the k400s are for a bedroom and garage. (I remote to a PC, I don't have a PC in every room)

I had the same kinds of issues with a similar keyboard when I lived in an apartment. After the move to a house, all those issues went away. It might have been an issue external to the keyboard.

The most hilarious thing about this keyboard is that pressing Alt+F4 puts your PC to sleep.
The number of times I've done this while getting ready to watch a movie is pretty high.

Tested this - does not survive 100lb+ kid sitting on it, while it's laying on the couch.
