M3 version gives you Wi-Fi 6E (how many people have >1Gbps home internet??) and ray-tracing/Dynamic Caching. But let's be real, if you're looking at ~$1K MacBooks, the scenarios where you're gonna take advantage of this is few and far between.
$849 + $179 for AppleCare+ to take care of those inevitable coffee spills is probably a better way to spend $1K, for most MacBook Air buyers.

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure there are many other reasons to get m3 such as multiple monitor outputs, faster SSD, etc.

also... i remember seeing an old lady at bb.. they were trying to sell her a warranty... she looked at them and said, "no thanks.. I'll just take care of it"... wise words.
also doesn't the m3 allow for dual external monitors? and the base model m3 now has 2 ssd modules which apple admitted to fixing in the m3 now.
imo.. the extra $150 is well worth it. and i'm always shetting on apple stuff... even i'll admit that the $150 is well worth it over the *base* model m2.
The SSD speed thing is overrated. I have here a Mac Studio M1 Max, M3 MacBook Pro, two M1 iMacs, and M1 MacBook Air. All of these have the "fast" SSD. I played around with the M2 Air yesterday for several hours setting it up, and the SSD felt just as fast as any of the other Macs.
If you've ever had to pay a out-of-warranty repair on a MacBook, you'll realize the $99-$199 deductible via AC+ is indeed a bargain.
