More like chips or confetti sized than shreds. Bought 2 can about 6 months ago. First can had a really off putting odor when cooking. Second is ok. Usually have to boil for like 20 min to cook before frying or adding in soups. add boiling water, then let sit about 6 hours to fully rehydrate. At this point just like a raw potato and need to cook or fry.
I would rather buy the milk carton hash browns. Taste so much better and so much easier to cook.
