You just have to be connected in order to play, if server down or no internet if you bring you system out, you can't play, and if they decide to close the server, you don't get to play the game again in years later unlike you own the game in PS2 and still get to play it like 20 years later, regardless if you going to do so or not, I don't but any games that required online for solo play. Unless it's like $5 or under I don't care.

I have GT 5 I think on PS3. Played it a ton, then got a wheel a year later and played a ton more. Low and behold, just 5 years ago I sustained a TBI from surgery that required me to relearn lots of motor skills. GT 5 and that wheel helped me a ton after 6 months of recovery and no real world driving.

I like the story; but GT7 is not GT5. I would stick to GT5 or GT6 or maybe even Forza
