Not a gaming laptop and don't buy it main puropse is gaming. This is more of a everyday productivity / Multimedia laptop with decent graphics card. RTX 2050 is just a stripped down version of RTX 3050 4GB and offers around 15% slower performance,
It is just one generation older and a lot more powerful than Iris Xe.

If you fiddle with the cart options, and you don't need the older 2050, you can downgrade to onboard graphics and then step up to a touch screen with the difference. Works out to be same price, but obviously lower resolution on the touch screen. Seems like a decent laptop. The touch/backlit key/16" combo has been rare lately on SD, but probably going to keep waiting for a better deal.
I was hoping they would give an option to decrease the GPU and increase RAM but 16gb is the max for this model I guess. Oh well

2 generations older as there are laptops with 4050's
Do youe research 1st and read the posts here as that has been cleared in the 1dt couple of posts. RTX 2050 card is not based on older Turing architecture like RTX 2060, 2070 or 2080. It is based on the RTX 3050 4GB (AMpere GA107) laptop variant for lower end and thinner laptops. All nVidia did is to redruce the memory bus to 64 bit from 128 Bit and reduce the max TDP to 50W as it has been designed for Thinner multimedia laptops. https://www.notebookcheck.net/NVI...930.0.html

Thanks for the link Suryasis. Your clarification is helpful.
Too bad that Nvida went with the potentially misleading 20xx naming convention for this chip. It's actually more like a "3050 light / low power" GPU. IMO a smart design tradeoff for notebooks in this space. A bit like the 386sx chips, which followed the original 386 / 386dx CPUs, but included a narrower / cheaper / lower powered bus 35+ years ago. (Yes I am old, lol.)
Between the soldered-on RAM, the power saving GPU, and the unusually ample ventilation on either side of the case, the overheating reports on these units are a bit surprising. Hopefully the later-dated ones we receive won't experience these problems as often.

There's a 10% cashback promo today for Dell (and other stores) at a well known site so decided to purchase this and use my soon to be expiring $40 Dell AMEX offer.
I got one to replace my bashed old Dell Inspiron with a 8th gen i5. FHD is a huge upgrade, and the screen is visible from all angles unlike my old laptop. Speakers are great, and the touchpad is way bigger. Only gripe is the heat. I bumped the performance down, but it still gets too hot to keep on my lap. Overall I would say it is an amazing deal.

The cooling vents for the Dell Inspiron 16 5630 are on the bottom of the laptop, so laying on your lap may not be a good idea. The vents on the Inspiron 16 Plus are on the sides.
Noticeable Backlight Bleed on 2.5k display. Received one yesterday. During set-up with dark screen there is noticeable backlight bleed on lower left and right portions of IPS panel. Debating whether to keep or attempt a Dell return. Probably due to stress from panel hinges. Not a big deal but shouldn't be there. Poor quality control?

Has anyone gotten cashback yet for buying this laptop? It's been 4 days and the cashback hasn't posted to my account yet. Usually, cashback posts to my account within a day when making purchases on other sites.

I placed an order early on 4/30 and finally got an email late on 5/1 confirming the cashback. Was getting a little concerned but it came through and is showing on my account.
got this, but when plugged in at idle or light browsing it goes into perma fan cycling.. fan on for 40 seconds, fan off for 40 seconds.. back and forth forever. no way to control fans. unplugged it runs and stays cool/quiet doing normal tasks. throttlestop is locked out, no obvious way to change it's throttling behavior to get it to act normal plugged in.
Anyone got some settings tweaks they'd recommend? currently leaning to return it and get something else

At 8nm, the lithography on this 2050 GPU is actually more advanced than the 10nm CPU's. See https://www.notebookche
