Kinda miss going to my local Advance Auto store to get all my parts but crazy high prices finally drove me to Amazon and Rock.

Samesame here. It's gotta be a bona fide emergency for me to stroll into a local parts house with their outrageous prices. Last time was for a 5 gallon oil drain pan deal, which is actually still a pretty good deal at $10.39 with this discount. Must have if you own a diesel pick-up.

Thank's for posting this OP. Its becoming hard to find anything over 15% off. Always shop around but sometimes with the higher % off coupons Advance comes out on top.

yep, same here. just looked up a part i needed, it was 900 at advance and 550 at rock auto. even with 20% off they are still much more expensive. the only benefit this store offers is if you need the part right now.

It seems like the local parts stores have taken on a convenience store business model since internet retailers have come into play. Make margins super high and prey on the large percent of the population that doesn't know (or doesn't care) that they have much better options. We just had a new O'Reilly's pop up in my town, so I guess business is booming for them.

I'm all about supporting local businesses, but all of these national chains aren't local businesses. They largely provide low paying jobs to semi-skilled labor and siphon off all the profit to far-flung places out of state. We haven't had a locally owned independent parts house in my town in many years. The closest thing here is a locally owned NAPA franchise store. Those NAPA guys can actually talk parts without burying their nose in a computer to try to find what you need in "the system". Most of the "parts specialists" you see at the other places are just aggravating with how little they know about what they're selling.

Their profit is from selling batteries and wiper blades at extremely high markup, and selling to local auto shops for repair jobs in which cost is secondary. What I don't understand is why the big 3 build their b&m stores right beside each other? The drugstores did the same thing for a while, and that hasn't seemed to work out too well for them.

Advance corporate laid off a lot of staff right around Christmas in a very ugly way.

Code causes order to be automatically cancelled every time I try to use it. Haven't gotten an order to get beyond the "order placed: we're sending a confirmation email" screen.
