Nope. QD OLEDs (Samsung) are different from OLED (LG) panels. OLEDs have a white sub pixel layer where as QD OLEDs don't. QD OLEDs typically have better panel uniformity from my experience. LG OLEDs have an advantage when it comes to size because they can produce panel sizes up to 97" where as QD OLEDs are currently capped at 77". Lastly color brightness and vibrancy is much better on QD OLED as well.

It depends on use case. If you absolutely need Dolby Vision then I'd recommend you go with LG or Sony. The equivalent Sony QD OLED is way more expensive. The only LG OLED than can compete with QD OLED is the G series that's equipped with MLA Technology.

I'd go with the QD OLED unless you absolutely hate Samsung or you need Dolby Vision. Stay away from the S90C 83" because it doesn't use a QD OLED panel.

IMO... the 5 yr Costco Warranty is better than the 2 yr BB warranty. The 5 yr Costco warranty coverage is as follows: Yr 1 - Manufacturer, Yr 2 - Costco, Yrs 3-5 - Allstate. My 65" C1 (purchased @ Costco) developed burn-in during year 2 of the warranty, and I received a full refund through Costco Concierge. That's as good as the BB 2 yr warranty that covers burn-in, and then there's 3 more years of coverage through Allstate/Costco (though that 3 yrs does not cover burn-in).

The remaining three years of your warranty goes through All State. I've heard mixed things about them, but I haven't deal with them directly. It's better to have some type of warranty once your initial warranty expires.
Thanks! You helped me make up my mind. I thought I got a pretty good deal on it - 77" S95D with two additional years of coverage, install, and an extra 65" TV for $3,379.

I cancelled my S89C & went instead for the S90C on Samsung's website. Insane deal going on right now for EDU/EPP. $1799 plus $100 off when you recycle a junk tv. Pair that w/ 10% off via customer chat (YMMV), I'm pre-tax $1540 for a 77in. Steal!

Looks like a good deal. I get confused so is this the one with 1 connect box?
Wonder what changes are rumored to be in the D version? Deciding since I don't particularly need another tv but could be persuaded at this price 😀
The S90C does not have a breakout box, you have to plug your devices into the ports on the back of the TV. The advantage is that you have less delay than you would have with a breakout box. So if gaming / lag time is important to you, this TV is a better option than the S95C with the breakout box IMO.

Interesting. I had always heard that LG OLED tech is superior to Samsung's. Good to hear a different perspective.
Keep in mind, how it processes content plays a significant role also.

Having compared this to a C3 side by side both calibrated, the C3 produced a more accurate picture to me.
Was the difference big, not at all, they are both very good displays.

Technically dynamic HDR(Dolby Vision/HDR10+) is a step above Static HDR(HDR10).
There are a lot of ifs in that when it comes to how much better it is by the time we view it.

You can't go wrong with either display they are both very good.

One thing often overlooked with all this talk about better is calibration.
If that's a priority calibration will yield the best your display can produce.

I know we're all traumatized from LGs virtual OLED monopoly of the past decade. But $2k for 77" Samsung OLED, is no smoking deal anymore.

In 2022, it sure was. In 2023, it was still eye catching. In 2024? Yawn city. Fantastic TV, but 2k is the normal sale you'll see every month or so. IMO, a smoking deal today would be $1499.

Queue the supporters..yes 5 year warranty+ $100 gift card makes it a nice deal, but still not smoking and I ain't smokin anything

Have had this TV for 3 months now. Some thoughts.

Black crush
, an issue on this OLED. It's an issue on ALL Oleds, but on this one, The crush can get pretty deep. There's a Shadow detail option, but it doesn't raise the black level enough to get over the crush, and it also erases the true-black capability by lifting the 0-value to non black, so it's not a solution.

The Colors are fantastic, nothing else comes close. If you love color, this TV can Rainbow explosion everything you watch..

Dirty screen effect, this will come down to lottery, overall, from the information gathered on various forums, the uniformity is indeed not so great. This is however not a huge issue for real content, you can just barely see some lines in the darker scenes.

If you are very bothered by DSE though, you might consider avoiding this generation, they haven't refined their process to the utmost yet. How bad is the DSE, well, it's still better than LG, so if you have your heart set on OLED, this is still the better option.

Gaming mode has alot of issues with odd color gamut behavior, twisted color secondaries, not a problem for the non-critical viewer, but it is a problem for purists.

Settings from forums, yes they make it a bit better, but not all the way, because this TV has undefeatable dynamic gamma. This means the left and right end gamma goes up and down depending on the total brightness on screen. This is not ASBL, this is another layer of dynamic contrast which can't be turned off in any mode. There is no option to turn this off in the service menu either it seems, but ask around, there might be some secret sauce floating on the forums.

So, would you void your 5 year warranty just to fix some of these issues. I don't think it's a good idea, but that's up to you. But they can not be fixed in the normal menu.

General gaming is great, 144hz has great motion clarity (for an oled). Low persistence strobing LCDs have an advantage in peak motion clarity but they look crappy in movies because of grey blacks..

With service menu (void warnt) mod, this set can boost brightness to next gen s95(D) levels, and beyond, if you're just that dangerous kinda guy.

Overall HDR accuracy is BAD, but this is true with all Samsung TVs, this isn't SONY, it doesn't change the fact that HDR Looks Great on this set.

VS LG, it's honestly better in everything except shadow detail, because it has more crush. The menu system isn't as good, but this is minor if you're ok with some poking around.

VS SONY, Sony tvs have bad gaming support. If you're a movie purist, no games, get the SONY. If you play any games at all, Samsung or LG.

It's arguably the best OLED on the market, for its intended use-cases, other than the latest S95D, the S90D hasn't improved much at all.

There is no burn-in on Samsung Q OLED panels, google it. Other failures, maybe, but no burn-in worries.
This is completely false information. This long term research already started seeing burn in after 3 months. ALL oleds have potential burn in issues if you're not careful.

LG are more resistant to burn in than Samsungs, per the last RTINGS OLED burn in tests. Samsung may have improved the latest models though, as this testing was done 2 years ago.

The OLED prices have to drop, because OLED consumer uptake is so slow now that the factories aren't making money.

That is incredibly stupid to not have Dolby Vision in 2024. My TV from 2017 has Dolby Vision. You're telling me you're gonna miss out on 2584 [dolby.com] movies (give or take) and counting? There are also plenty Dolby Vision content on Netflix and other streaming sites, usenet, etc etc etc.

VERY VERY VERY DUMB!!!
Well it's a licensing issue and also Samsung is a co-founder of the competing format HDR10*.

Not accurate, the Samsung they tested had a firmware bug where compensation cycles were not running properly. With the compensation cycles fixed in the latest firmware, there's no problem with image retention.

I bought this TV from Costco last October for $500 more. No regrets. It's hooked up to a q990 set of speakers and the Q symphony setups works flawlessly.

At this price and a 5 year warranty it's a steal. The only con is lack of Dolby Vision in comparison to its competitor but if you do the research or compare the TVs side by side, you'll see the LG brightness does not compare. So even with Dolby Vision it does not deliver the same picture quality.

The LG fanboys/girls will hate. I have a LG oled... I just wanted the best overall oled for the money and if you look at some reviews you'll find most would agree.

These LG fans have been to my house, I sense their jealously, and their tears are delicious. yummy

Dolby vision is for casuals, it's literal trash, Even Sony is ditching it in favor of pursuing their OWN tone-mapping scheme. shake head
