Is it significantly better than QuickSync built-in to Alder-Lake/Raptor-Lake?
Well, Alder lake doesn't support AV1 encoding from what I see, and the machine that the A380 is on is an I5-12400. I got it specifically for AV1 encoding, and it does that well. The one caveat is that AV1 isn't always supported by all my devices (fire sticks, tablets, etc), so I have ended up going back to using H.265.

I'd say if you had a Raptor Lake chip and a decent PSU and 6/8 pin support, then I'd consider a better card. Even the higher end ARC's would be a better buy. In my case, this A380 went into a budget Acer rig I got that was meant to be a light duty computer, but has now become my main computer for the time being. This computer does not have 6/8 pin support, the PSU is proprietary, and so I was limited to PCIe power only, a smaller size, and low cost. For me, the A380 is a deal.

I got this last Black Friday at this price. For the cost, it's a great little card. Very low TDP (43w), no need for 6 or 8 pin (which the Asrock A380 requires), supports 4 screens (3 Displayport, 1 HMDI), and has AV1 hardware encoding (along with H.265 and H.264).

Downsides that I've seen so far: It's not a gaming card, it just isn't. The fan turns on and off a lot, and if you have good hearing, it can get a little annoying (but it is fixable with a quick change in the fan settings). You need Resizable Bar. Without it, I saw about a 30% drop in encoding fps.

All in all, at this price? Good deal for those that want an encoder card or anything better than an iGPU.

EDIT: I somehow thought 3 displays. It does in fact support 4.
Thanks! The fan factor is very annoying... Other than that, can this be a good card for Video encoding?

So based on your experience you wouldn't go to an all AV1 library because of device compatibility?

I was hoping it could transcode AV1 to h265/4/etc to save storage space with an AV1 library, but it doesn't sound like it has the horsepower for that.
