I already provided IMEI for trade-in phone (s9).
Can i return different s9? or should I call tmobile (or visit costco) to change IMEI?

Not sure if it matters here but i got completely screwed by Tmobile a few years ago when i bought a galaxy s9 off of swappa just to trade in for 800 on the new galaxy flip and because i didn't have the s9 activated on one of my lines at time of the order they did not give me the 800 trade in.

I still have that old s9 and i am going to put the sim card in and activate it before i initiate the trade in just to make sure this time.

I have traded in many phones on T-Mobile. Not a single phone was activated on my acct. I always bought the cheapest phone to use for trade-in. Not a single issue.

Must have been the filipino tmobile customer service agent that automatically applied one of my activated phones that were not trade in worthy even though i told him i was intended to trade in the s9.It was a night mare so i don't want to take that chance again.

Do it yourself online next time. Select trade in different device, enter imei. It will be no human errors.

I think it's more than a blacklist check. One time I tried to trade in a phone that wasn't paid off yet, and the IMEI check stopped the trade in. (I went out to the parking lot, logged in and paid off the phone, then went back in and completed the upgrade.) For your purpose it would probably work as long as you cancel the earlier trade. Otherwise I expect you'd run into problems if you try to trade in a phone that doesn't match the expected IMEI.
Ended up going to Costco and the rep called in to Tmo support. They canceled the online trade I had done (buyers remorse or something like that) and had to have a supervisor approve it. After a RMA was sent to my email, the Costco trade in was able to go thru.

If you have a nice rep, try to do it in store, otherwise I would just call in and ask for a return and after that's done, just go into Costco and pretend you never had an issue.

I did this deal today at Costco. It was very quick and smooth. After I got home I looked at my account and I didn't see any mention of the promo or $500 credit. Where in my account do I look for the promo code? I do see the order with trade-in device IMEI under order status.

So in plain English, you can pay off your installment plan early. The t mobile rep lied to me cause he said he is 100% sure cause he does it all the time.
Yes and you can do it on the tmo app>bill>view device payment plans. Then just select the device u want to make a payment on

Got the deal at my local Sams Club, but At the bottom of my Order Summary, it says:

Once your new Pixel8Pro-Bay-128GB ships, you'll have 30 days to send back your current Samsung SM-G781U Galaxy S20 Fan Edition 5G 128GB - T-Mobile in good condition to receive a one-time bill credit of $40.00.

is that normal? I thought it was supposed to be ~$500 spread out

Yes, it's normal, you get one time credit of $40 then rest of the credit ($460) will be applied over 24 month
