Note from the reviews: Additionally, if the previous owner did not unlink their Apple ID from the Airpods before returning to Best Buy, these are unable to be linked to a new Apple ID. Would not recommend these as a gift due those reasons.

Best buy doesn't give details on the refurbished and they don't check to ensure they are delinked from the previous customer. They are also denying my return, so STAY AWAY! No 1 year warranty, only a 90 day that I'm not sure apple even honors!

One user did report they could add Apple Care, but I believe it's very YMMV.

I'd pay $40 more for not only clean ones, but ones you know can be linked to your Apple ID and can add Apple Care.

Seeing the insane amount of earwax my son's AirPods accumulate in very short time I'd say stay clear of refurbs. I clean them out regularly but it's impossible to get it all.
