Thanks, ordered. I had deal alert for this.

My 2010 or so Magnifica finally got to the point of no longer worth fixing. During these years,
It had daily use and kept going.

I hope this one will be as good.

I replaced a water pump $20,or so, a couple of years ago. Was an easy install for me.
This time the burr grinder unit finally went out. After a decade+ of abuse by dark roasts, not a surprise. I found one for 170, and could have fixed it, but not worth it on a 14 yr machine I paid 399 for back then.

Anyway my experience has been great with Magnificas.
I bet many of the insides are the same as my old one.

Two things worth mentioning imo:

Machines like these are more noisy than a drip coffee maker or Keurig. But then there are no quiet coffee grinders afaik. If you don't have a bedroom where someone needs to sleep nearby when coffee is made, it is no issue.

Second, depending on water, you have to descale these quite a bit. White vinegar is not as strong as proper descaling solution. However, you can buy 2 gallons for the price of a bottle of descale solution, and it worked fine for the last 8 years on my last Magnifica YMMV, if your water is full of minerals, you may need to stick with the real descaling solution.
There is zero taste residue with white vinegar. I am sure it isn't Manufacturer recommended but worked fine for me and our water.

Last tip. The machine discharges a bit of water as part of the startup and shutdown. If you keep a cup sitting under the spouts when you turn it on and off, or just have one sitting there, you have to clean the drip tray less often.
Are you really that complacent? I mean you aren't even asking if anyone here has personally used it. You're asking us to do exactly what you should...go to the item page and look at the reviews or just read the details of the deal where it literally tells you the review rating.
The reviews seem to be pretty interesting. Click the link lazy guy!

Thanks, going to give it a shot. First espresso machine!

Anyone have any Costco bean recs?

I have two very similar machines, (an earlier version of this) the Magnifica ESAM3300. My Costco (Austin TX) carries some locally roasted beans from a roastery called Ruta Maya that I have been very happy with. I don't make fancy drinks, I just use it for easy one-step fresh-ground coffee and I've been very happy with the Ruta Maya beans in that role. I don't know if they are only sold local to me, or if they are in Costcos nationwide.

Real world experience. If you are looking for espresso, this unit is misleading. It attempts an espresso like consistency and flavor but is more in line with a cold brew base. Soak vs pressure. This is a good coffee maker by cup. If you are not concerned with espresso and more focused on a grinder/coffee maker, there are equivalent units for cheaper out there. If you are more focused on espresso, go with a real espresso machine. This unit is awkward and target people that hear espresso, think high end and expensive, and buy without actual understanding of what espresso is.

I've had one for about four months. I got it from Crate and Barrel for $500 I think. I love it but no machine is perfect. I need to descale mine now in fact and it's a pain. Feel free to ask me any questions.

All these types of machines, commercial or home, need descaling.

Thanks for the tips. So far I'm very happy with the Magnifica that I bought a couple of years ago Smilie

I agree it is a bit of a pain. I always get the manual as a pdf from the web and print out the pages related to descaling and kerp them close to the machine in case I forget one of the steps.

We usually do when doing something else. The descaling sequence can sit at a step for a long time waiting for you to do something, like refilling the tank with fresh water. You could be gone for hours and do something else, come back and fill in water, and the sequence will pick right back up.
After a few times, it wasn't that bad.

Also, check how hard your water is. On my old Magnifica, white vinegar descaled just fine. It's much cheaper than the descaling solution. I used that for about 8 years.
But not as powerful as the official descaling solution, vinegar doesn't work well on water that is mineral rich.
Also I am sure not endorsed by Delonghi.

We use citric acid dissolved in water for descaling. Cheap and works well for hard water. It was recommended by a different manufacturer's manual.

Does this automatically dump the used grinds and reload or do you have to empty it manually after each use?

I have a Phillips Lattego 3200 from Costco that I can never get a right latte from. Anyone have both and can attest to this being better ( ie easier learning curve )??
I generally do the custom option and do milk froth than an espresso shot. this seems to work much better than the other options for me!

Super info. How do you know, though, If the vinegar descales less or more effectively than the solution?

I just ordered the phillips 5400 deal from yesterday. Does this hit pretty close or even better for nearly half the price?

To avoid damage, I read up on it before I started to use white vinegar. That was mentioned somewhere.

The time it needed from descaling with solution vs vinegar seemed the same to me.

I was in the same boat (had the Phillips 3200) and bought this De'Longhi a year ago - I'm much happier with this machine. Maintenance/cleaning is WAY EASIER. The espresso is equally good from both machines, and the Phillips had a few more options of types of drinks to make.
Ugh, that is one thing about the Philips that is a pain in the ass. Cleaning!
