Service can be activated online at https://metrobyt-mobile.com/resources/activate [metrobyt-mobile.com] as soon as the tablet ships. You'll need your order number, last name, and billing zip code.
To setup the tablet without inserting a SIM card, power on the tablet and wait for the initial "Welcome!" screen to appear. Then press the volume down button for a second, and a "NoSimLock is unlocked!!!" message appears. You can then tap the Start button and continue with setup without a SIM card. (However, if you later insert a SIM card into the tablet, it will initiate a factory reset and you will need to set up the tablet again.)

Steps I took.
1. Signed up for a google voice number using a junk email.
2. Set up a voicemail PIN and then paid $3 to unlock the number. Follow these instructions: https://slickdeals.net/f/17325810-metro-by-t-mobile-port-in-new-number-offers-select-smartphone-30-days-service-from-40-free-shipping?p=1695
3. Signed up for the $30 plan using an eSIM. https://slickdeals.net/f/17143504-esim-bring-your-number-online-25-metro-by-t-mobile-single-line-phone-plan-unlimited-5g-data
4. After paying for $30 plan, I wasn't able to add the tablet initially. It showed an error saying call in (I didn't). I logged into the account with another browser and then was able to buy the tablet for $20. I'm not able to buy more than 1, the second attempt it errors with "Sorry, you are not eligible to add a new line".
Update: Metro won't allow you to add a second tablet to your shopping cart if the first one is already on order but not activated yet. You'll see a message on the tablet product page saying "Sorry, you are not eligible to add a new line." and the "Add to Cart" button is greyed out. You can activate the first order once you get the shipping notification email (even before you get it). This will allow you to add another tablet to your shopping cart. Use this link and enter your order # to activate the first tablet after it ships. https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/r...s/activate This doesn't necessarily mean you'll be able to successfully place the order (see update 2 below), but will allow you to add it to the shopping cart and attempt the order.
Update 2: I see a lot of people reporting that after they add the tablet to the shopping cart and try to place the order, they get message to call into customer service and are unable to complete the order. I saw this post mention the likely causes: https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=
Suggestions based on what worked for me.
1. Try incognito mode or private browsing mode on your browser.
2. Disable any browser ad blockers or whole network blockers such as pi-hole. Also try using a VPN such as Windscribe to bypass your network ad blockers.
3. Use a virtual credit card number from Capital One or Citi cards so Metro sees a new credit card. Another benefit is you can close it out after your purchase to avoid any additional charges (even though it's unlikely).
4. If the above doesn't work, trying shipping to a different address like a relative or friend. Use the name of person at that address (since you don't live there). You will get some verification questions about that person, so you will need to know some info about that person such as the height listed on their driver's license, past address history, colleges attended, vehicle ownership history. You'll have to answer 3 questions from one of those categories (maybe a few I missed).
I can confirm this tablet works with the $10 T-Mobile tablet line even though hasn't officially been unlocked.
The original instructions for bypassing the SIM requirement was to hold the tablet in landscape mode, then tap the four corners in sequence of upper left, upper right, lower right, lower left. Repeat. Repeat again. (Twelve taps total.) Then press the volume down button for a moment till the message appears.
Someone later remarked the taps were unnecessary and only the volume down button press was needed. I tried that on two tablets and it worked for both.

at the end they always give a payment Error, they charge the cards and then reverse the charge. I've used 9 different cards. Shipping and payment address are the same. I've used chrome, edge and the browser that comes with the phone. I've gone incog mode, cleared cookies, put my name in lower case, all that. I've used a PC, Apple I pad, IPhone and a Motorola stylus phone, Nothing!
I called the last 8 days, and the India customer service doesn't help. They actually try and pass off the call to another department so they don't get the bad feedback for not helping at all. They just waste your time. Asking for the pin and then making up things. The last woman told me my order went through and it would ship. I told them the cards showing it was charged and then reversed, She told me "wait 24 hours, it will go through". Of course it didn't! 🤬This is the most scummy experience I've ever had with a company.
and like people here have said the stores are literally a nightmare! My phone wouldn't activate and I was told to go in and they would fix that to the e sim free of charge. I go in and they tell me there is a $99 fee to do that, then it was $40 fee, then a $29 fee. I kept saying "no, I was told it would be no charge". the manager laughed and said "nothings free of charge in the store". After an hour arguing with the guy, He is like do you have a phone to call metro customer service and I said yeah, my wife's, he said ok go call them. So I walked back to my wife's car, got her phone went back into the store and said "ok I'll call them". All a sudden he was like, oh don't call we will do it to the phones e sim.
I'm about to give up here. I was seriously going to cancel my internet because they went up $40, and use metro, but metro won't let me add a line. I've never seen a company so resistant to getting my money.
id get the cheaper one.
if u want/can use stylus then of course the moto.
moto=slightly faster processor. less ram.
n30=slightly slower processor. more ram.
in reality. for most people. the speed is not that different between the 2.

T-Mobile site says 5G: n25, n41, n66, n71
Verizon site says 5G: n77, n78 (under Global & Roaming Network section though)
ATT site says Bands n2, n5, n30, n41, n66, n71, n77
I doubt that Samsung will manufacture separate tabs for each provider, but wanted to see what others think on 5g compatibility once it is unlocked?

It always gives me a good chuckle when I get the same screen and read "..our award winning mobile experts..."
I know I couldn't keep my composure if I called in so I used chat instead. My one phone line was suspended for nonpayment 4/7. I made a payment on 4/30 expecting 30 days of service. Then the system wanted another $40 and the agent on chat could not understand why that made no sense. In total I would be paying $80 for another month of service as the phone wasn't active between 4/7 - 4/30.
I've never dealt with a customer service rep who sounded so pissed when I wouldn't accept her answer. This was through chat but you could tell she was pissed I wouldn't bug off. She finally transferred me to a supervisor (because we care about your concern), who subsequently dropped me from the chat.
4/7 suspended
4/30 payment made. that is good through 5/7. not 5/30
logic=they kept that line for u. they kept that number.

So when you unsuspend an account, you pay for a full month of service for whatever days you have left for that month? That's messed up. I'm glad I don't use them for anything but cheap phones/tablets.

When phone unlocks in 6 months and I try to use on another provider, I wonder if refreshing OS without SIM will remove these apps? Install new provider's SIM when restarting?
