I'm a big fan of the 9-46 gauge set. I've tried the Ernie Ball version, pretty good, but then I tried the Gibson Les Paul signature gauge set and that has been my go-to since. While EVH was the best, it doesn't necessarily mean everything marketed with his initials on it is. That said, anyone have any experience with the EVH string brand? Thanks OP, repped!
May work on a LP scale length or similar shorter scale guitar (Mustang etc), if you're down tuning, on already lose strings (per note); but 9-42 are the standard 9's for 25.5 scale length guitars; like regular Strats and Tele's.
Because thick strings are just a matter of choice; but stress a guitars nut and bridge tolerances and may be difficult for good intonation. It's been shown thick string do not sound better and 9's on a Strat sound ever so slightly better.
If any atypical hybrid was desired (on longer scale lengths) then I'd first look at maybe 40 for the low string with the rest of a set of nines. I currently have a 38 and works just fine.
You particular fingers my know their tolerance for too big or too thin strings.
Jazz players like BB uses 8's and on a looser shorter scale too, Easy to bend; but may be more breakable and too lose, for looser drop D tuning.
Might be a deal if they were 5pk for $25 and you play metal of an LP or similar.

Repped for the find anyway.
