I use the "normal" strips (non-gradient) and Command clips to more securely mount them.

Does not require a sync box. A sync box (or compatible TV) is only required if you want it to emulate the color the TV is showing.

Related - what is the best way to get hue lights under my kitchen cabinets?
This is overkill for kitchen cabinets and too expensive. Use the regular hue strips. I used a multitool to cut thru the wood and then mounted it to the front edge of the cabinets to face the backsplash wall, instead of facing down. I have black countertop, so the reflection would be annoying. I also used litcessory to connect the strips, since I had 2 gaps (stove and sink). No issues, took an hour or so, looks clean and no reflections anywhere.

This is similar to what I did (picture is not mine) (Scroll until you see a picture of white cabinets)

Yeah, regular Hue lightstrip plus, or whatever it's called now. It's thinner than the gradient strip and easier to maneuver.

I saw the combo sync box plus 65" lightstrip on Costco.com for $389.99 - was tempted but I started reading the reviews on the sync box on Amazon and the complaints about Dolby and spotty performance with 4K sort of shied me away - not permanently Smilie - maybe getting the light strip now and waiting on "an upgraded box" but could be waiting a long time.

This seems a good price for the lightstrip - camel shows around $180s as lows.

How terrible would this be on a 77" TV?

Edit, someone asked the exact same thing. All good.

I imagine this is true if using the play function, but if not using it I assume I might be fine? I have the same question. But may just wait it out.

You can use your pc/Mac as intermediary by using Hue Sync app on computer and mirroring tv to computer screen - less seamless and likely will involve lag unless you shell out for the sync box.

Isn't that the whole purpose of getting this?

I don't want to mess with the signal going to my TV, has anyone tried using a 4K splitter, one to the sink box and one to the TV?

I don't know that it wouldn't look right. You'd just have to attach it in a smaller square further from the edges of the tv. Definitely would look a bit dimmer since more of the light would be blocked by the tv.
