Bambino plus has a back off value for steam pressure release -- this QOL feature
And the porta filter is much better quality compared to regular Bambino.,-- this definitely makes difference in shot that's being pulled

One of the best purchases I ever made during COVID. Great form factor, consistent, and fast heating. Good price good buy. Don't listen to the naysayers.

I bought a Barista Pro for $450 a bit over a year ago (BBB SD), but knowing what I know now, would have opted for this and saved the rest for a better grinder. Since then, got a manual Flair p58 and only use the Breville for single shots and milk-steaming.

Returned the Barista Express BES870XL from the Best Buy deal a while back for this Bambino Plus.

While this is lower cost, it's much less fuss with the steam wand if it's your daily driver. It's bring your own grinder though!

Thank you very much for this list. I will say that I am not a fan of that scale. It is very very small. I found it too small to be useful and returned it. YMMV

LOL, $16 for the WDT tool! I got one for $1 delivered on a infamous Chinese site.

Puck screen: I bought one together with the espresso machine, I had the same thoughts then ("helps keep the group head clean of coffee grounds"). It turns out, that it is useless really. I never use it now. The group head is clean without it. Simply flush 50ml hot water though it (without the portafilter) after making your espresso.

The funnel above is great, I have the same one. However, I prefer the one with the 3 ears, which you screw to the portafilter ( less coffee grounds on the rim of the basket after WDT or tapping). Make sure you buy a stainless steel one. Those made of aluminium are not precisely manufactured.

The tamper recommendation above is good.

Scales: I recommend "Tiny2S", but only if you can get them for less than $25. The current price on Amazon is ridiculous.

I get grounds on the group head every time I pull a shot. Pulling a shot with no portafilter doesn't fully remove them. I use a cloth. Will be trying the screen to see if it helps.

Great info. I would recommend the H24 (14-18) version of the IMS basket though.

Why? What's the difference?

Puck quality with smaller doses on a larger baskets is not very good as you have a larger void space.

doesn't a toothpick or a sewing needle do the same job as a wdt tool? i can't imagine paying more than a few bucks for such a thing.
I can't remember where, but I remember seeing some article about how the ideal width for the needles of a WDT is 0.3mm. I have a 3D printer, so I settled on using 0.4mm 3D printer nozzle needles and 3D printing a handle and stand.

However, I haven't personally done any rigorous testing and I am still using a WDT simply because everyone says I should. I haven't noticed any obvious improvements, but the possibility remains that I am a dullard.

You can't win. Gaggia is even worse; they are fickle about their warranties when the time comes.

H24 fits between 14 and 20 grams of ground coffee
H28 fits between 18 and 23 grams

He means, that it is a bad idea to fit, say, 16 grams of coffee into the latter basket. Because there will be too much empty space on top. Many people like "18g ground coffee in, 36ml espresso out"; then the H24 is better for them.

This is a machine I recommend to most beginner espresso enthusiasts. I had this machine several years ago, and its quite good in my opinion. I eventually upgraded to the Breville Dual Boiler due to a variety of reasons, but still recommend the Bambino and Bambino Plus to most.

Going through the comments in this thread, the inconsistency issue is because the cheaper machines use thermoblock technology that heats the water "on the fly". The advantage of this technology is super fast start-up times (ready to brew in ~3 seconds after starting the machine). The disadvantage is that your first shot will be inconsistent, so I advice people to "purge" the brewer for few seconds with hot water to get to stable temperature. Just 2-3 second blank shot is adequate. Then put the portafilter and brew your espresso.

The automatic frother is really great, and I really appreciated that in my early days before I learnt to texture milk manually. For folks who like Latte/Cappucino or other milk based drinks, its a godsend.

Bambino and BDB (Breville Dual Boiler) are the best machines in their classes. They are a head above the competition.

other Breville machines are not so impressive

The newer "impress" line (Breville Barista Impress) with built-in Baratza grinders and tamping are fairly good value as well.
