How many months/years of waiting is worth $9.95 to you?
This just got released last year, I believe. You might be thinking of the regular Baratza Encore (no espresso settings) which retails at 150 usd.
Gr8 grinder. Been using mine for 4+ years with no issues. This thing is a work horse. Buy one, lasts a life time or at least a long time lol

The static buildup on mine is insane. Ground coffee is so statically charged that it sticks to the inside of the plastic bin in clumps and explodes everywhere when you try to dump it out. Cannot use this without making a huge mess
Grind ... wait 20-30 seconds - no static

Does it get coffee grounds all over the place? My current one is horrible and I even put water into the beans and stir to try and get rid of the static but its awful

Dump in your beans, then add a few drops of water before you grind them. No muss, no fuss!

I initially started out with the OXO but started hated using it after a while since it trapped grinds and it's impossible to clean the chamber without removing burrs. Not to mention, the grinds were not consistent. I'd personally recommend a nice manual hand grinder over the OXO or save up for a better grinder.
I second this. I went through two electrical burr grinders, including the OXO, before getting the Baratza. The Baratza is the superior machine. It is a workhorse that is easy to clean and service with a more consistent grind. The OXO was a mess.

How have you been using it for years if this just came out last year?

It's the same core model they've been selling for decades, slightly refined adjustment mechanism and portafilter holder.

Thanks for posting OP.

Anyone think this will hit $150? That's my target.
I may be wrong but I don't think this grinder makes Baratza much profit. It doesn't go on sale that often and is made with very high quality parts, and the MSRP has barely budged despite like a decade+ of inflation. Coffee grinders aren't like fancy electronics so the parts don't get any cheaper with time.

The Turin DF54 seems to be getting all the hype lately for $200ish espresso grinders, but it hasn't been rigorously tested like the Encore and the product support is an open question. Apparently they're rebranded Chinesium grinders which makes me wonder if build quality issues will show up later on. Decided to go with the ESP for the sale, and larger community of support.
The DF series or Turin series has been very openly marketed as a Chinese designed and produced grinder since the beginning. Buying on Ali would be a bad idea, but Espresso Outlet acts as a very reputable distributor who does good quality control and warranty work so that you don't have to deal with overseas communications.

It's not just the community: with Baratza, you also get a company that actually stands behind their product and wants you to be able to repair your machine, unlike where most US companies have pivoted to planned obsolecence. Baratza actually have videos on maintenance/repair, and you can buy all the parts direct as a regular consumer. For the Encore, they even put out videos on how to DIY upgrade it to better burrs.

I'm really interested in the DF54, but it's pretty apparent that the "Turin" branding is just reseller (Espesso Outlet) labeling, to try to make it sound vaguely Italian (which is silly, it would at least be called "Torino" if that was really the case). You can find plenty of DF40, DF64 on aliexpress, under various branding.

The support related reviews for the Turin brand on their own site (Espresso Outlet) are abyssmal. Some of them sound like a case of not knowing how to calibrate/etc, but equally… why wouldn't even just the reseller at least be able to manage telling people how to do that? There's videos on aliexpress about it for the df40, for instance. That's… scary bad levels of support. Multiple reviews claim the ionizer doesn't work at all. Some of the aliexpress vendors for df line grinders say you might get one unit or the other depending on stock, and makes you wonder if people are even getting what's claimed with these US df resellers.

So yeah… personally I'd wait out the DF stuff for a bit longer and see how it pans out. There's already another US reseller for the DF54. Then probably just order directly from China once it's available through one of the big aliexpress sellers. Meanwhile this deal here is a great price for a Baratza ESP. If I didn't already have two Encores with one modded, I'd probably just snag one now. I'm still tempted lol. Must… resist D:
I don't think the Turin branding itself or the Turin/DF online stores are run by Espresso Outlet. Espresso Outlet does act as a major distributor though. I've only ever heard good things about their customer service though Ali shopping is obviously a wild Wild West if you choose it. Personally I don't have any questions about the DF series longevity but I'd also vote for the not buy it yet camp because the grinders are going through rapid iteration and redesign cycles so it's worth waiting until those start to slow down. Like, the DF83 is friggin sideways now with an auger system that who knows if it works and the DF64 is compact now and not the overbuilt friggin brick, but only on some newer models not all of them. It's not like Baratzas or Fellows that seem to have a well thought out design that the company is willing to stick to for the long haul.

nice post, yeah I figure if the DF54 stands the test of time I can always sell the ESP to recoup some cost. but if the hype is real and it's truly a game changer, I would also expect the big boys to follow suit and release something comparable in a similar price range.
There is no such thing as a game changer grinder in the world of coffee. All of these are small improvements, good improvements sure, but small ones nonetheless. Good coffee stays good and never gets outdated and grinder mechanisms have been refined to a point where there won't be massive paradigm shifts anymore. I'm sure the DF54 is nice and maybe its revisions will be even nicer but waiting for it in the hopes it makes established good stuff like the Encore obsolete is foolish thinking. Upgrading grinders within the same price tier is also extra nonsense. If you are gonna dream of near future upgrades at least dream of a tier higher when you are ready like DF64 or Fellow Ode Gen 2.

I had a Baratza Maestro for over 10 years before the gears started to slip. I emailed Baratza support with my serial number and they sold me a kit to replace and upgrade all the gears with their newer design as well as swap in the Virtuoso M2 burrs for $55. I'm really impressed that they support home repair of their even 10 year old grinders and for $55 I effectively have a Virtuoso quality grinder with brand new internals. Hopefully I'll get another 10 years out of it.

Baratza Encore ESP or Breville Smart Grinder Pro. Is the pro worth the extra $40.00
I haven't tried the Breville SGP but from what I hear the new Encore is straight up better in pretty much every way. Breville's famous bean grinding espresso makers used to include what was essentially a SGP integrated inside but the new revisions are all using "Baratza grinders" instead implying that the Baratza setup is the upgrade and better.

It can be, especially if you live in a dry climate. I get a metal spoon, touch my sink to ground myself and stir the grinds with the spoon. It removes most of the charge. You can also grind the night before and let it set if you don't care about it being fresh ground right before brewing.

My Discover card only has quarterly 5% specials. This quarter it's gas and home improvement stores. I'd be all over this like ugly on ape if I got $10 off.
