I'm wondering the same thing. I'm in year 1 of the Reserve, and deciding whether to keep it for year 2. The $300 travel credit per year is easy to hit, so I'm choosing between $95 for CSP or $250 for CSR.

Like you, the lounge access is the most important perk to me. It has been a real life saver several times... either to relax in when I'm exhausted during a long layover, or when I'm in a rush and need some quick grub.

Besides that... 5X / 10X points when you book travel through the Chase portal? That's worth something, although half the time it seems like the airfares in the Chase portal are higher than booking directly with the airline. So I dunno.
The 5X/10X is worth almost nothing as they seem to hike pricing on every ticket/hotel.

I'm pretty much in the same bot as you on CSR vs CSP. Main perk is lounges. But I travel less now. And their lounges become more and more difficult to get in due to capacity controls, which bothers me. restaurant credit instead is nice, but there's often not enough time for that unlike a quick lounge visit.

I'm also thinking that if I pay for the lounge out of pocket, it's usually $27. $155 difference will buy me 5+ visits. With no capacity control, I think. Is that enough for the year? Maybe, depending on whether you travel alone.

This card is not a keeper. Out of the current offerings, I think only the CapOne Venture X and the Amex Business Plat worth it for most people, the rest are for churning. Banks got smart and the lifetime and/or family language is almost always there these days. And lounges are crowded anyway. Big Grin
I was looking at Venture X as an alternative to Sapphire Reserved. But, besides the fact that I've had bad experience with CapitalOne before... Venture X gives you "miles" whose value is unclear to me. Vs. real money of Ultimate Rewards.

And, damn, Reserve customer service is very good. They sent me replacement cards for free to Europe and did a few other nice things over the years. Not sure it's worth $250 a year, but it's a nice little luxury.

As far as SUB, is that true that you are not eligible on CSR if you had CSP SUB recently? This is not what customer service seem to imply.

I had CSR SUB well over 4 years ago, CSP SUB a year ago Thinking of canceling CSP and signing up for CSR in a month. Do I read it right in this thread that I wouldn't get CSR SUB?

Did you get it in branch or online? I know someone who applied in branch last week , they went back this week and got the additional bonus applied to their account.
If online, chances are slim, but you can call sapphire helpline and see if they are willing to do it for you.

Thanks. I went to the branch, and they matched the new promo. However, my account is still showing 60k instead of 75k.

Was told this offer will be available online next month in May. Makes sense since the online offers came after the in-branch offers in the past.

Only one sapphire sub in 48'months, unless you manage to double dip. So, no, you wouldn't get it.

It's a great bonus for anyone looking for this card, but overall the capital one venture x is the same card (visa infinite). Primary rental insurance coverage is the main benefit and the only real difference is the UR being better than venture miles. However, were talking about $550 vs $395. So to get 1.5cpp worth of stuff to cover the $155 delta is a lot

No , you pretty much apply on their computer at the branch. Card comes via mail. Can request expedited shipping if you are in a rush.
You can also just add it to Apple Pay a few minutes after getting approved Wink

Yea. I posted this more for the 85k CSP bonus. CSR isn't justifiable for most people.

just curious why did you close the card as opposed to downgrading to a no annual fee chase card?
One factor in favor of closing a recent account is to maintain a long average age of accounts. Average age of accounts remains a key factor in credit scoring. As such, for those maintaining a few older accounts to keep a long average account age, closing a relatively new account will generally be the recommended option.

Good luck!

Do you need to have a checking or saving account with them to apply for the credit card at the branch?

they have offered me free card but I rejected since I don't have any use for it. I already have 4 regular cards and 1 business card. End of April/May is a good time to get a card before summer vacation/vacations. Never had any problems with it last summer in Europe. The only thing I wish it had a PIN code. Perhaps it could be requested. European credit cards require PIN code like debit cards in States.

no you don't. I applies last year and I didn't have any accounts with them other than business CC.
