Yeah, specifically, there are many recent complaints of the box being painted over rusted metal and the paint peeling off. It appears to be a common issue with this item.

Looked like a good deal. However the reviews left in 2024 on the product are a bit concerning.

The ones at my store are so beat up I can't imagine they will ever sell. Asked a manager if they would mark down for damage and he said he would take $25 off lol.

For those that have bought this in store, is it possible to solo load this into the car/truck?
Bought one a while back and loaded into a minivan with the help of Home Depot staff. Definitely don't want to solo it and will at the very least take 2 relatively strong people and better with 3.

Also curious if this would fit in a CRV back.
Oof we had a minivan and it would go all the way to the second row seats that are pushed forward, and with the third row completely down. It's also a bit taller and wider than you think so any other position would hit your car ceiling. We had it long ways in meaning the long side parallel to the door if that makes sense. I have my doubts for it to fit in a CRV or a RAV4, or any midsize for that matter. Highly recommend measuring your trunk space prior to make sure you can fit it in.

For what it's worth, I just bought a red one of these in Tennessee after checking it for paint issues. Couldn't find a problem, inside or out.

I bought a 46 inch version exactly a year ago. It was after all the rain storms in Southern California. It arrived in moldy and soaked cardboard that I just peeled off. There was water all over the inside, and the top of the bench had warped and was no longer level. They were great about a replacement but I'm wondering if this is related. Maybe they ruined a bunch of them last year and are trying to refurbish and resell.

Loaded 2 in my Odyssey last night, had to open and checked all 7 in my store, other 5 were rusted and paint started peeling. Hopefully my 2 are ok....time will show

I purchased this about 4 months ago, and I didn't notice the rust issues when new. But looking at it now you can see the paint defects.

Got mine delivered today by HD. Was left on top of a wood pallet in front of my garage so I got a nice wood pallet for paying shipping. One of the drawers had some light bubbling of paint I assume due to rust issues but it's going in the garage so am not that concerned with the cosmetics. The floor panel also had a very slight gap where it was bent around the walls. Again just cosmetic which I fixed by going around the cabinet with a rubber mallet.

BTW, it's not immediately obvious but the drawers remove by moving the black plastic tab on the right side DOWN while the moving the tab on the left side UP. You'll need to do this on one of the drawers to get the power cord through the wall of the cabinet. ,.

Hey; I just bought one today and it easily fit in the CRV on it's side. HD staff loaded it. There were 2 in my store, one had very bad bubbling paint and visible rust, I took the other one.

This is kind of tempting but I have a 2x4basics bench kit sitting in my garage still waiting for me to assemble it... not sure when that's going to happen LOL

For those who care about quality I highly recommend the pro version of this. It's twice as much, slightly larger, but is built like a tank. The metal is thick, drawers are stout, and the wood top is adjustable. Lastly it has massive wheels on it that are very sturdy. I have no regrets and would never buy the cheaper version based on my experience.

Sometimes paying more upfront for quality saves you a lot of money vs buying cheap multiple times. Plus it saves the landfill.

I've had thia same box for 3 years in a non insulated garage, and no rust or weird stuff so far. The drawers are the only thing that get flimsy after a lot of use.

You should be able to tell if it has a bad paint job when checking it over at the store before buying it.

And if so, you could probably ask for a significant discount.
Aren't these shipped in boxes on pallets? If so, bring your hammer, prybar, and drill/driver. And something to cut metal bands.

Are you talking about the Husky 62" Heavy Duty Mobile Workbench with Adjustable Top …? Looks like that is now running $1198, but I have seen it on sale in December / January for $800.

If there is a different model that is a bit smaller and closer to $600, I'd love to know about it. Thanks!

Edit: adding HD internet number (302158736) in case the URL doesn't work.

Edit 2: found a 52" heavy duty mobile workbench for $719. Not available in my area though and not available to order. Internet number 305410517.

I have bought a similar craftsman box from one of those pallet auction places for really cheap. Enough of these get returned that they can be had pretty cheap through places like that. Complete gamble though, mine had a little dent, but it's going in my barn, does not have to be in perfect condition. That said, this seems to be a really good deal
