This is going from memory but there is actually a chart in the instruction manual (for mine, not sure about this one) that shows wattage usage based upon water temp setting and ambient room temperature! I believe mine is ~40w to keep at temp.

In the winter I don't mind so much as any waste is warming the room and 40w isn't all that much if I use it.

edit: I think it pulls 800 while it's bringing water from room temp to set temp. Again, from memory or reading the manual. Doesn't take long but then holds all day. I have mine on an Amazon smart outlet to kick on in the morning and eventually I tell Alexa to turn it off.

Normally I hate the "made in China" comments, but part of the value proposition of buying a zojirushi is that they are made in Japan and super high quality.

If you're gonna buy a Chinese kettle with a warmer setting, you can buy all kinds of good ones on Amazon. You're paying a lot for the name for little reason

Pay more and get the Made in Japan model. I've been using mine for 8 years.

The lining is coated with some weird non stick chemical paint so you should be protected from the BPA.
Thank you

Yep exactly.

I have a made in Japan Zoji kettle and use it daily over the last 3 years, never had an issue and we love it.

This keeps the temperature after boil, the glass kettle won; even if it does it will be terribly inefficient due to heat loss.

They have both, you just need to pay more for the MiJ ones.

I assume those should be energy efficient - how was your experience?
https://shop.zojirushi.com/collec...rs-warmers

If concerned, Vacuum Edition (VE) models will block heat loss much better, much like an insulated Stanley.

Otherwise, in normal use, you can put your hand on the plastic body and it'll feel warm all day long - ie leaking energy as heat.

....

For a 4L water pot, around 0.8kWh per day, 24 kWh per month.

At $0.20 / kWh, you'll notice the ~$5 increase on the electricity bill.

....

For those that are clueless, think of it as plugging in another TV and turning it on every evening.

....

Note: this is the minimum expected because of you use more than one pot of water per day, there's the extra cost of heating cold water for each extra pot of water.

If you are willing to pay same amount of money. "Made in China" will give you much better quality than "Made in Japan".

This is mostly true since most stuff made in China is made to a price point...and Chinese OEMs were amenable to it.

Think about apple products for reference. Also, on a whole, no one has ever complained that non-mass produced items from China were ever crap before. Think about fine China flatware, traditional clothing and numerous textiles, privacy screens, art tools (calligraphy brushes) and Many of their OG foods (stuff that China exported before they were mass market)

The converse is also true in Japan. If they need to build stuff to a price point, you'll absolutely notice it. JATCO transmissions, anyone? For even footing, compare items at DAISO from CN and JPN at the same price...they both last equally long (or equally short?)

Manufactured by a Taiwanese company using Chinese labor that is quality controlled by Taiwanese management. That fact makes all the difference. Taiwan isn't cursed by the extreme chabuduo mindset supercharged by decades of communism like China is.
