I like EV's a lot (currently own 2)… rented a Polestar 2 for a week while traveling and really hated it. Felt super small inside and did not make good use of the interior space like most other EV's do. We had heard good things about Polestars and were surprised how much we didn't like it. It was such a treat to return home to our Bolt EUV.

What do you think about the new equinox EV 1LT coming out later this year at $34,999 all in, with a 319 mile range?

Worth new price? I'm considering it
Well if it qualifies for the 7500EV then it makes it interesting, With leasing it first you ALWAYS get the 7500 rebate and then you if you still like it you can buy it. The buy out price would then be a lot cheaper if you were to straight up buy it.

Silly question - is the $1,400 destination charge already factored into this price? Or is this part of the "dealer fees" that come up in the end? When I go to checkout on their order page, I don't see the $1,400 factored into the sign on or monthly fee.
It should be factored in. All of the information should show up in the configurator (I always select the "lease" option and turn on the "include taxes" toggle).

How much is the insurance on these cars?
Insurance quotes depend a lot on the individual. You will have to price it out with your insurance provider.

Just reached out to my local dealer on this and the license and dealer fees turn the $1000 down into $8000 down. I expected SOME difference, but that's quite a bait and switch... Wow
After a little digging around this is what I calculated for NJ (which is on par with Tesla)

3,000 Down payment
695 acquisition fee
300 1st Month
12 title filing fee
85 title fee
240 registration

Total is $4,332 due at signing

PLUS the $395 disposition fee due when you return the car.

This makes the total fees roughly $164 a month. Add the $300 monthly car payment and you're paying $464 a month.

Not sure how the $2k is applied but if it's on the msrp, you won't see a full $2k off the car since the monthly payment is a percentage of the MSRP.

Not directly related, but I recently talked to another dealer. Apparently, you only need to hold the lease for 3 months to qualify for federal ev credit (for cars that don't qualify directly via outright purchase). Maybe ask your dealer if that also applies here if you want to get out of the lease quickly and convert it into a loan or buyout.

Also for people in Oregon (and probably some other states that offer state incentives), the Oregon incentive is based on "original MSRP", which ignores any discounts... I've no idea if there's a way to bypass that.
For what it's worth, I've heard that rumor with other manufacturers too. They don't want you doing an immediately early buy out because then they don't get any interest. Genesis told me the same three months. However, my understanding was a lease is a lease and what Genesis or Polestar wants isn't necessarily what the finance department can legally enforce and clawback the fed credit (that was already applied to the contract) or whatever. In our cash we bought it out two weeks later without any penalty. In a nutshell, read the lease before signing it for for any potentially early buy out gotchas (Like I believe Nissan somehow forces all the interest on you).

In an EV, I guess tech is the most important aspect. Just my $0.02
Eh, depends entirely on the person driving the car. Some people want the latest and greatest tech, some people want better driving dynamics.

The configurator is helpful. It shows the delivery fee as part of the MSRP. So it's probably incorporated in the monthly payment already, not a separate fee due at lease signing

I don't understand how to get those numbers. From what the dealer tells me, the $2000 gets reduced from the MSRP (lower monthly payments) but the fees are $2,537. How is OP getting $1,200??
There are some fees that gets added (license, registration) and the first month's payments, all goes into the "drive away" price. Which is probably what's getting it to $2537. You can also play with the configurator and remove your deposit entirely and see how much the monthly changes by.

Holy crap that's so much. Do you live in Texas by chance? I hear that in some states, when you lease you have to pay the entire tax (on the total price of the vehicle) up front. Which is sucky TBH.

This is not $2000 off a lease. $1300 down with $299 payments is impossible.

It's $2000 off MSRP, so unless you are buying the car, you don't get $2000 off.

Just got off the phone with the sales manager for manhattan. 27 month lease, 10,000 miles per year, $299 per month and $2,581.38 due at signing (this includes the Costco promo discount and all taxes fees etc necessary for the state of Delaware). They would like a $500 fully refundable deposit that would then apply to the amount due at signing, so at signing we'd only owe $2,081.38. We could either pick the car up for free, or work with a transport service to have it delivered (I am waiting on what that price would be). Priced out with insurance and I'm getting a rough insurance price of $115 per month.
Honestly good price on that insurance. Mine will be about $200 a month for just the EV.

The way I see this working and I would suggest whoever is serious about this is to have the contract take of the 2K off the down payment.

So for NY for example

It should roughly work out to 3000 - 2000 + 1500(tax) due at signing and $300 or a monthly.

Lucid was having something similar and I got the contract to take off the incentive of my monthly payments instead.

$2000 is off MSRP, not the lease price.
