Out of date? Please explain how this camera is out of date? Is the photos from a Z8 vastly superior. I think not. I've got a Z7 and a Z7ii. I would dare you to tell me which photo was shot on which camera. Your more interested in specs then real world results.
This camera is not "out of date" Bay any stretch. I don't think one can do better for a NEW, mid/high-end camera.
I think we are playing a semantics game, but largely agree with another: cameras 3+ years old in the mirrorless world are "old," but they are still absolutely fit for purpose and can create beautiful images.

It's 4 years old. That's a long time in the mirrorless world. Why do you think it's discounted so much?
Honestly, 4 years old is nothing in the camera world, even for mirrorless. I know professionals still using bodies 10+ years old. No one can tell which picture came from their D810 vs Z8 without pixel peeping. At most you lose some bells and whistles and some autofocus performance going with a z7ii over something newer.
Z8 was release last year. I wouldn't call that out of date.
That said, it's hard to argue that the Z5,Z6 and Z7 series (and the Z30/ZFc/Z50) aren't pretty far behind Canon and Sony in the AF department especially
I love my Z5 and Nikon makes some great lenses.... just realize that anything other than the Z8, Z9 and possibly the ZF are going to have AF challenges in some situations.
having the Z6 and the Z8 together (My camera bag also has a D4 and D5 in it), the AF on the Z8 is next level. It finally makes me not want to use the D4/D5. I just want a 24MP Z8. I find the 45mp sensors to be really noisy in general even at low ISOs. The results are perfectly usable over 20K, but I see so much noise on them.
All that said, Z8 is light years ahead of the other cameras besides the Z9. I haven't used the ZF.

I still use my D4 all the time and I've had it for 12 years. I still use my D1x from 20 years ago. But when I'm photoing a concert, I'm now using the Z8 for almost all my photos.

after the photo is taken? Sure you wont be able to tell the difference, perhaps even if the photo was from Iphone 15pro vs Z7II.
Will you be able to take the same photos with Z7II vs Z8? Depends on what you are trying to take. AF and faster read outs for high burst speed on Z8 is why people spend the extra $$$s.
Canon R6 II vs Nikon Z7 II at the same price. Which one should be got and why?
The Nikon has much higher resolution, while the Canon has better fast-action focus tracking. The Nikon's resolution is the same as Canon's R5.
These are both suitable for professional and advanced amateur use, and photographers in those groups usually have a set of lenses they want to keep. Both the Nikon and Canon can use their respective DSLR lenses by using an adapter which is essentially a spacer; no optical conversion occurs. I think that 90% of serious photographers would choose because they already own lenses they want to keep.
Beyond that… there are Nikon and Canon fans, and I don't take any stock in that. I prefer Canon, but at this point, I own thousands of dollars in Canon lenses, and there's simply no way I would switch systems because of that.
I got a Z7ii a few months after the camera's launch. I love it so much. I primarily use it for landscapes and occasional deep-space astrophotography.
People love to say the AF is bad, but it most certainly is not. Once you understand the settings and how to use AF tracking you can get a very good hit rate. I've taken great photos of ospreys, kite surfers, and hummingbirds. Hummingbirds being the most difficult and lowest hit rate. Those buggers are a challenge.

Guy first of all very few people use burst. Secondly the speed of focus and faster read outs would be so minimal that it really doesn't change things. Guy having the best and fastest doesn't create a better photo. If you have to use burst for anything but sports of fast moving objects, you probably need to look at your abilities not have to shoot 20 photos to get one.
if only Amazon didn't reach into other sellers warehouses when they run short, that is how you get knock offs from Amazon, no longer worth the risk. Just buy from the manufacture.

How does this compare with the Sony A7iv?
