I purchased a 12k "hose-in-hose" Midea unit for my parents last year. It is superior to the single hose, but the inlet and outlet are in the same hose. Some air will mix. In addition, the part that seals in the window is not great. Even with applying foam, there are minor gaps.

All of these portable ACs are terrible when compared to a window AC. If you have a vertical window, you should consider a U shaped window AC. Not only does it cool faster, it's way quieter, doesn't take up any floor space, don't have to worry about dumping condensation water, has better window seal, and you can even open your window if you want to.
Having the dual tube design is very important. One tube for drawing in outside air and one for exhausting the hot air. Looks like a good deal from a great vendor. Congrats on making a good contribution to the site and welcome.
Good price. But I had a unit, broke after 2 months, had an error code that indicated refrigerant leak, god a full refund from Sam's.

if you can fit their U window units anywhere (they are small) they are SILENT

I've got the 12,000 window unit going with a DC motor fan at max in front of it, drawing only 200 watts at 79 degrees

and cannot hear it, I had to put some ribbon streamers in front of it to even know if it was on or not, lol

Where'd you get the DC Motor fan? Those are way quieter and can spin down to very low RPMs, but I can't find them in the US, at least in typical retail channels. The AC fans are terrible in comparison

Do not buy if you don't have a window …. you must have a window to exhaust the hot air
and bring in fresh air.

What stops the air inlet from drawing in exhaust if it's a hose in hose with same exit entrance?

You might consult a contractor to install a dryer vent type vent that would handle the air flow needs.

If you have a larger budget you might consider a mini-split. The compressor sits remotely from the air handler.

Get a condensate pump, super cheap everywhere and cam pump the water to a drain from the unit

I got a Danby 10k from Costco last June for $369, having been living with no A/C in an apartment and it was a lifesaver. I'm in the PNW so it's not very humid and doesn't build up water inside the unit.

problem for us with the midea u unit is that we have blinds that pull down and have a light block on the side of the windows - as a result, i don't know how to use the bracket that comes with the midea as you can't bolt it to the sides. Any idea on what to do to get around that?

Typically only the heat mode requires draining. I had a different model from Hisense. If the plug was left in it, it required draining after less than one day... Guessing a half liter.

Huh? Isn't the cooling part what's removing humidity?

And I thought these units used the condensate to cool the coils or something and didn't require draining.

That doesn't match my experience. I have the Toshiba-branded version of this with the heat pump feature. If you have the heat pump version, there are two drain plugs in the back, one for heating and one for cooling, so both modes are certainly capable of producing condensate.

Anyways, I only have used mine for cooling, and I definitely get condensate coming out of the drain plug. But similarly, about a half-liter in a day of use, in a room with about 50% relative humidity. This is in contrast to another old dual-hose portable (different brand) I own, that one seems to throw the condensate onto the hot coil to evaporate it, so hardly anything comes out of the drain plug on that brand....

Yes cooling is what causes water. I have an older model of this and even in dry socal it produces about two gallons of water each day

Anyone know a way to get a free membership? There aren't any clubs near me so it's not worth it but they want to add a $119.90 non member fee on top of the shipping fee which is ridiculous

Where do you use it if not at home already? Are you saying single hose models are best for the home, and dual hoses for somewhere?

Look at deals on this site or groupon. You won't find free, but low enough to make a single purchase palatable.
