How do folks who have CSR or CSP feel about Chase's travel portal? I find that while I can get a 50% bonus on point redemption, the stuff is usually marked up a bit so that I'm not getting that amazing of a deal in reality. For example, the price might be 10% higher than I could get on Priceline or directly through the airline/rental car company/hotel, so it makes it more like a 35% bonus.
For me, the math on the CSR is becoming hard to justify. The lounge benefit is losing restaurants, the annual fee increased, I don't get a ton of value out of the DoorDash benefit. This is probably my last year, but I might be enticed by another signup bonus like this.
i hardly if ever book directly on the travel portal, not great value because like you said, prices arent the most competitive. i typically use it to transfer points to air france or southwest if i see a good deal with the airlines directly.

As long as you have not received a bonus on either card in the last 48 months, you can get the bonus. These are the terms on both cards: The product is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 48 months.

Lately for some flights I've seen a 1.5% markup, max. Over the last year it's been the same price as on Google Flights, and maybe a couple times I saw flights for 10% more expensive. I've searched/purchased SE Asia/East Asia flights over the last year, and more recently it's been trans-continental US and Hawaii where I've seen the 1.5% price increase on the Travel Portal.
Overall, I still feel comfortable that I can get 1.5 CPP on the Chase Travel Portal, and that is why I will keep the CSR. Finding award redemption >1.5CPP is hard. Hyatt redemption, when you can, seems doable but I haven't gotten to do it yet.
My wife and I just transfer our points to Hyatt, where they are usually around 1.5 cents in value if not more. We cruise a lot, though, so the card is worth it for us because we get 3% back on all of our cruises and then always stay in a Hyatt the night before, paid with points. We also don't get medical insurance for our cruises anymore, since the card includes evacuation insurance + a small amount of medical insurance.
I haven't flown to Europe in a decade, but you can always transfer points to try to get a business class ticket, as well, if you save up enough. And ya, my backup plan for if we ever stop cruising and have to close the card would be to just transfer all the points to Southwest. But hopefully we never stop cruising
How are you getting 3% back on your cruises? Is it specific to a cruise line? I cruise once a year, in fact, I'm leaving for this year's cruise in two weeks.

I'm not the poster of the comment, but the CSR gives you 3% back on travel. I assume a cruise would be coded as travel.
I like this card due to its Primary Insurance for car rentals purchased with the Card. Also, I use it for 1:1 for United or Southwest. I've never used the travel portal for ultimate reward points.
if i have preferred, can I do the deal on reserve? then i'll cancel my preferred after I got my reserve.
Per the requirements right on the signup page. "This product is available to you if you do not have any Sapphire card and have not received a new cardmember bonus for any Sapphire card in the past 48 months."
My DTr is looking for a card, she was going to apply for the reserve card. But I have her as an authorized user for my preferred card already. Do I need to cancel that before she can get the bonus?

got a "need more time to review application" with a 780 credit score. i'm hoping its because i put my updated address and not the address they have on file for amazon chase card. will try to call recon line tomorrow.
update: was able to get connected with someone and they did the review process. took about 5 minutes. got approved.

As someone else replied for me, the CSR gets 3% for travel. Not all credit cards "travel" definitions include cruises, so it's nice that CSR does. If you value the points at 1.5 cents, you're essentially getting 4.5% back. With that plus using Costco as our travel agent, receiving a Costco travel cash card and a 2% Costco Executive bonus, we get around 10% back on our cruises.
Note that the Costco credit card gives 3% back on travel with no annual fee, too, but the extra 1.5% and other benefits make it worth it for us.
