How do folks who have CSR or CSP feel about Chase's travel portal? I find that while I can get a 50% bonus on point redemption, the stuff is usually marked up a bit so that I'm not getting that amazing of a deal in reality. For example, the price might be 10% higher than I could get on Priceline or directly through the airline/rental car company/hotel, so it makes it more like a 35% bonus.

For me, the math on the CSR is becoming hard to justify. The lounge benefit is losing restaurants, the annual fee increased, I don't get a ton of value out of the DoorDash benefit. This is probably my last year, but I might be enticed by another signup bonus like this.
i hardly if ever book directly on the travel portal, not great value because like you said, prices arent the most competitive. i typically use it to transfer points to air france or southwest if i see a good deal with the airlines directly.

lol that's my food for 2 months...
churning is dead or very hard to do it. You can try prepay cell bill, electricity, rent but it's up to the utility company to accept it

wish I'd have your problem

As long as you have not received a bonus on either card in the last 48 months, you can get the bonus. These are the terms on both cards:
The product is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of any Sapphire credit card who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 48 months.

So…if I downgraded my Sapphire Preferred to a standard Sapphire two years ago I'm ineligible. By their own wording I imagine I would qualify if I close that account and open a new one as I meet the signup bonus criteria. Right?

I've only used it once and it was because the dinky rental place had "NO AMEX CARDS ACCEPTED" everywhere (their merchant service accepted it probably, but they didn't want to deal with the insurance benefit and cutting into selling you their own insurance). Had 4-5k in damages and I contacted whomever Chase uses for insurance and they reimbursed me within a few weeks.

If you just want a card for travel/no FTFs/rental insurance, I recommend this one.
Not this card, but related and on this topic. You can get primary insurance on plenty of AF cards (so you are actually paying for this perk), but the real unicorn for me is a no-annual fee card that provides primary insurance ....and Chase has one. It's the Ink Unlimited business card. It's primary rental coverage only for foreign travel, but that is still is huge for me, and mostly the only reason I've kept in in the wallet after getting the nice signups bonus. (Also unicornish -- Chase allows you to have multiplesof this card and get multiple SUBs...nice,and I have a couple of them). Also, this has to be on a business trip rental. Having been retired for 15 years, my "business" travel reason is extended testing of sunscreen in warm locations, with the potential of writing up the results and expecting some income from it at some time in the future. Yeah, that's what it surely is...😀

When did you get your SIB for the sapphire card? If it's also around two years ago then you wouldn't qualify.

You will need to downgrade the sapphire to one of the freedom cards or cancel it in the future though. Once you are say 49 months past when you got the last SIB you can then apply.

Many no AF cards, including Chase Freedom and Freedom Unlimited, provide primary rental car insurance when renting outside your country of residence.

If You are renting outside of Your country of residence, the coverage
provided under this benefit is primary and reimburses You for
covered theft, damage, or administrative and loss-of-use charges
imposed by the rental company, as well as reasonable towing
charges that occur while You are responsible for the vehicle.

Can i apply and get the bonus if I had a CSR, which was downgraded to the no-fee sapphire version 3 years ago? I got my SIB like 5 years ago.

You have to either product change or cancel the Sapphire before applying.

update: was able to get connected with someone and they did the review process. took about 5 minutes. got approved.
what phone number did you call and what did you say to have them do the review process during your call? tia.

I pick and choose what I use my points to book. I do use Chase to book certain things after a price comparison. For example, I just spent a week in Cozumel on points alone. I used points valued at about $1400 to book a room I could have paid cash for $1250 or so. So yes I'm not squeezing every penny out. To me it is worth it. I'm a CSP holder so the annual fee is minor and I don't really want to spend the time hunting to pinch every penny. I've also found rental cars are often competitive on Chase. So I use it frequently to pay for vehicles.

I LOVE my CSP for many other reasons though. One great example is the automatic travel insurance coverage that I have actually used successfully in the past. All travel insurance is a pain, but eventually they paid me over $2000 for a trip due to a flight cancellation due to weather. That's 20 years of annual fees. Easy decision for me.

I had a TV I bought with my Chase Freedom start to go bad (visual artifact on the screen due to failing backlighting sections). I ended up making an extended warranty claim and got my full purchase price refunded. It was a little bit of a hassle (had to take the 65" to a TV repair shop), but I ended up getting the full purchase price of the TV refunded, which was $1500. I didn't even know I had that benefit on the card until someone on SD mentioned it.

I'm hearing her just fine. I suspect she is incorrect, but she answered the same questions asked several different ways. As mentioned, it'll be possible to check before applying, so I will simply do that.
In cases like yours it is a good idea to ask the rep to send you an email that contains what s/he told you.
I often prefer chat because at the end I can copy the whole conversation out and file it. On the wensite of some companies you are asked if you want them to send you a text of the chat you just finished.

When you pay, using this card, your electricity bill, your health and car insurance bill, your heating (oil or gas) bill, make the amount a larger than required. If you pay bills online some companies may not allow you to pay more than slightly over what you owe. I heat with oil. I called up my supplier and asked if I could simply make a $400 prepayment via. Ask your father (any relative you trust) who pays bills via a non-point gathering way that you will pay with your card and they will reimburse you with a check. The spend on the card does not have to be for you.
