Hello Again Everyone!

We're back with Round 4 of Staff Picks of some of our favorite comments of the last couple weeks.

All of the winners mentioned below will receive a $5 Amazon gift card via email. If you don't see your name on this list, maybe you'll see it in Round 5!

One of my very best friends and co-workers, emceep and I, wanted to run these contests because we've been part of this community for so long and for us, the comments have always been some of our favorite things about Slickdeals. We also have fun attempting to come up with fun (if yes, sometimes very cheesy, lol) award names for some of our favorite comments.

Here's to you, the unsung heroes of Slickdeals, who help keep the site fun, informative and wonderful for everyone. We honestly appreciate you more than you will ever know.

The Wind Beneath My Seat Award

Quote from revaaron :
The seat I've been using for the past 10 years is now held together with ropes and I've sewed in clothing to the arms/seat because it was all destroyed (so many farts). $55 and I'll replace it. thanks.

Are You Buying This For Your Delorean? Award

Quote from Hogan773 :
As a time traveler I have specifically come back from the future not to make loads of money for myself in the stock markets or to stop a horrible accident from occuring. No, I have traveled back to let you know that indeed this motor oil will go on sale again in 6 months, and the price will be the same. But also if I were you I wouldn't stock up now because you probably won't be getting a chance to use the oil anyway. As to why, I cannot tell you or I may tamper with the space-time continuum.

Now That's Slick Award

Quote from Archimedes001 :
Actually the variance is still there. These cheap entry-level synthetics are basically your conventional oil additive package and VM in a Group III base oil.

A traditional premium synthetic has a high performance additive package that meets usually ACEA and Euro OEM specs and uses a better VM that burns cleaner. They also tend to use a better Group III and and/or PAO (Group IV).

You have to understand how these products are made, the Kirkland (Costco), Amazon Basics, and Supertech (Walmart) cheapy syns are all based on a bid in this case Warren won the bid with the lowest cost product. Hence you get just the bare minimum in engine oil, so a skimpy conventional additive packages (8-9% treat) and cheap and dirty VM (OCP). The goal with formulating these products is to make it as absolutely cheap as possible or you don't get the bid.

When premium brands formulate their synthetics (Mobil 1, EDGE, Platinum, Liqui Moly) their goal is to differentiate so when you see 10x better wear protection or sludge prevention it is in comparison to exactly these market general cheapy products as those meet the bare minimum specs. Your premium syns will use a higher end additive pack (13-16% treat) and a clean burning, shear stable star polymer. They also tend to use some higher end base oils like GTL, PAO, esters along with GIII. These also tend to meet ACEA and a lot of the harder Euro specs like Mercedes, VW, etc. This is why you don't see a Kirkland 5W-40 for a VW or Porsche as those products can't meet the tougher specs.

The reason people seem to think they are all the same is they never take apart their engines to see the difference. The higher performance oil will keep your engine running closer to new for longer where the cheap products leave more deposits, sludge, and cause more wear. Your engine will still run, but it will burn more oil and have less hp (clogged piston rings) and likely shorten turbo life as those bearings hate deposits.

Here is a little more proof, most of the big lubricant marketers have introduced their own cheapy syns for fighting grade synthetics to compete with kirkland/amazon/supertech. Mobil has Mobil Synthetic (no 1 in that name) for example. Look up the specs and it's just API SP/dexos1 and is likely a market general cheap formulation just like the others. Mobil 1 however is a different beast and is self formulated by ExxonMobil and still has a nice slug of PAO in the products.

Now if you get into higher variants, I'd agree HM, EP, SUV etc the variance there is much smaller. They might have a little booster or be a smidge thicker but very similar to each other.

My suggestion is to compare specs. If they only meet SP/dexos1 then they are basics. If they meet Porche, VW 50x, MB 229.x, BMW, ACEA specs then they are high tier with robust additive packages.

The Best Side of Slickdeals Award

Quote from tobytheneuter :
Friend, if your daughter would like to go again when it's not under maintenance, I will gladly buy you both tickets to go. I'm sorry you're going through what you are.

The Fancy Meatball Award

Quote from kida182001 :
For my family, going to Ikea restaurant is only for super special occasions, like birthdays and anniversaries. We put on our nicest clothes and hop on a bus to Ikea. Everyone loves it there!

The Humpty Dance Award

Quote from JayDee917 :
Have these. They have the most unusual hump on the inside part of the arch of the foot. It felt weird at first but not uncomfortable for the first hour or so, but after 4 hours my feet were in severe pain.

They look great and I can tolerate them for an hour at the gym but could never wear them for longer than that.

There's a reason it's $140 off.
The Nostalgic Ninja Award

Quote from starcaptor :
This is a great deal for the $. I loved the hell out of this show back in jr high. The tapes were absurdly expensive and you had to wait a month for each one.

Then followed all of the chat room roleplays, the fanfics (anyone remember daigkusei no ranma?), the bootleg wall scrolls, the discussions on rec.arts.anime.misc, etc. this show was my jam for at least three years. It dominated mid-90s cosplay, and probably filled a good 20% of animerica's ad pages. It made sense as this was Viz' flagship show.

You had your fandoms with who was the best fighter, which love triangle had the best plot development (or square...or pentagon?)...and of course, who was the hottest. The snes game was pretty good...the PS1 game was like a badly-handling version of Tekken.

This show also kicked off many a sub-vs-dub debate, because not only was the show expensive, but Viz also released the subs at later time than the dubs...and also charges $5 more for it. So it went from a "which is better?" debate to a "is it worth it?" debate.

However, if you're a post-2006 anime watcher, I recommend catching a few episodes to see if it's your thing. I can't really imagine anyone younger than 35 who could get into it. It's one of those shows that's either watched by old-heads or studied for academic purposes for some undergrad-level anthropology class, lol.

However!!! Whenever I meet a ranma fan, I know that he/she and I can totally jam it out...it's like a secret handshake for all of the geriatric millennials anime fans. Give a holler if you grew up with this show.

Purr-fect Hydration Hero Award

Quote from namlook :
Fountains aren't gimmicks for cats. Cats prefer moving water and will drink more water because of it. Better hydration is better for their health. Something in their DNA has programmed them that moving water is better than still water. Before I got a fountain my cat would constantly splash the water everywhere with his paw before drinking it because cats don't like drinking from still water. It would make a mess and I'd come home to an empty bowl with water all over the floor. The fountain has resolved the issue.

Can We Just Get Takeout? Award

Quote from MellowPen966 :
That's a good deal. Just paid for $40 for the 10" at Walmart to replace the one my wife burned up. Yes, burned up. I don't like her cooking.

The Tipsy Tailor Award

Quote from Kal22 :
Screw it. Giving it a shot. I have four weddings to go to this summer and I just need something. Returns are free with a Macy's account so might as well take a shot at it. Maybe next year will be the year I get a nice suit...

Did my measurements a little tipsy and came to a 40R. I'm 6'0" 185lbs pray for me
Bummed by Broccoli Award

Quote from JonGoku :
The pictures of the the dad casually slapping one hot pizza after the other from a 1000 degree oven directly onto an outdoor table made me laugh. This guy must have mad skills as he was even able to find time between 90 second pizzas to relax on a sofa with his girls.Totally legit!

I was about to pull the trigger on this deal until I noticed broccoli on one of the pizza's. This raises a huge red flag for me and makes me think this deal is a bit suspicious. Think I will pass, but thanks for posting.

Squeeze the Day Award

Quote from TheXung :
This is the Sawyer Squeeze https://www.amazon.com/Sawyer-Pro...B00B1OSU4W. It's at an above average price right now. Usually, they're available for around $30. While the Lifestraw probably has the most brand recognition amongst the general population (because of first mover effects), the Sawyer Squeeze has pretty much been the gold standard amonst backpackers for the last decade.

Some critical flaws of the original Lifestraw are that it literally has no bottle threading, so its only use case is to use it like a straw, meaning lowering your head down to a water source and only drinking when you are at a water source or carrying your water in a wide mouth bottle like a nalgene because it's the fattest "straw" you've ever drank from. And because of the lack of bottle threading, you can only force water through by sucking, meaning sharing a filter between multiple people would mean everyone drinking from the same straw. Sucking from it also means you can't cook with it.

The Membrane Solutions imitation lifestraw at least has bottle threading, so it has none of the cons of the lifestraw. It's flow rate is really low though. The Sawyer Squeeze is rated for 1.7L/min (you probably can't get this theoretical 1.7L/min though; the most I've gotten is 1.5L/min). At 0.5L/min, this straw is less than a third of the Sawyer, and all filters will slow down even more as they get used. I'll use my Sawyer down to around 1L/min before I backflush it to clean it up, which I'm not even sure if this straw is designed to do or has assessories to facilitate.

In filter designs, there is a trade off between flow rate, filtering level, and amount of filtering material. You can increase the flow rate by either lowering the filtering level (0.2 micron vs 0.1 micron) or you can increase the amount of filtering material (causes the filter to weigh more). The Sawyer filters 0.1 micron at 1.7L/min and weighs 3 oz. This straw filters at 0.1 micron, 0.5L/min and weighs 2oz; it clearly has less filtering material to have a lower flow rate. The original lifestraw filtered at 0.2 micron, an unknown flow rate since you have to suck through it, and weighs 1.6oz. There are other backpacking filters out there, most of them filter at 0.2 microns, advertise a higher flow rate and weigh 2oz; they are sacrificing water safety for higher flow rates and achieving higher flow rates with more filtering material. The Sawyer is the only filter with a lifetime longevity.

Sage Dadvice Award

Quote from Dough_Boi :
To be honest I have been doing my own lawn from a long time and I learned from the best of the best, my Father. This stuff is over rated and over priced, also shrinkflation has taken 3k sq ft out of the bag and price has increased. These synthetic feeds nowadays are just pure garbage. Their compensation is smaller granules which I highly recommend using a mask of some sort if you're really going to get this.

My Dad, and now I, swear by Organic feeds like Milorgrante 6-4-0. This applied a few days to a week after using Hi-Yield Atrazine Weed Killer will work better wonders than this garbage ever will. For $5-10 more you can get a much better and lasting product.

I created an account just to post this to help anyone out.
Savvy Shopper Spotlight Award

Quote from c2nah777 :
Clearance priced. Get this while it lasts. Reps for this.
  • Well worth it for me just for the trash container.
  • I have a glass buster/seatbelt cutter. If you don't, get one.
  • Mounting a phone on the vent only works in the warm months. You don't want heat blasting on your phone.
  • I don't need a charger, and nothing about the power output of this one. Probably basic.

Burger McBox Mashup Award

Quote from joustonline :
Yeah, same here, I went to one a few weeks ago and they got rid of the filler boxes that used to be 5.00, then went up to 6.00, now they don't have any. Only thing I got was the pot pie combo, it was 6.99 but it only comes with a drink, no sides. KFC is too expensive for me now.

Yesterday I got jack in the box, mcdonalds and burger king, 1.49 soda from mcdonalds, 1.00 any size fry deal from jack in the box, and I used reward points to get a free whopper from bk. All 3 places are on the same street so didn't drive far.
For those that don't know, when I was browsing the jack in the box website for deals I noticed they have a deal for 2 jumbo jacks for 5.00, I didnt feel like eating 2 jumbo jacks so I went with the 1.00 large curly fries.

Or for Really Really Ridiculously Good Looking People Award

Flip open top. Put your finger on the little hole. Turn bottle over right above dispenser. Remove finger from little hole. Squirt to fill dispenser. Put finger back on little hole. Turn bottle right side up. Flip close top.

Never spills a drop that way.

That Would be the Shizzle Award

Quote from TheEdge :
If this had Snoop Dogg on the box, I'd be in for a case.

Spec-tacular Slickdealer Award

Quote from zyberwoof :
These are a waste of money. I just caved and bought a pair since I'm a hypocrite without impulse control. But they are definitely a waste of money.

Must be Made of Marriage Material

Quote from PocketsThick :
I went on a date with this. I'm now married to multiple women and have several kids.

Groundbreaking Advice Award

Quote from tsglenn :
I agree that a D-handle is good for shoveling, but for actually digging, in difficult ground with rocks and boulders and tree roots, long handle is the way to go. I have both. The long handle is needed for thrusting the shovel into the ground or for steadying yourself if jumping on the shovel head. Actually, I have two of this long handle version, which is absolutely phenomenal for prying boulders out of the ground.

Treat Yo'self Award

Quote from CalmBoundary841 :
This game made me feel something for the first time in a long time. If you haven't already, treat yourself.
Hope It Wasn't a Flaming Hot Cheeto Award

Quote from maxcap :
