What are you talking about? Motorized pull-through knife sharpeners are used the world over in commercial and home kitchens alike. The sheer act of sharpening a blade is destructive to it, regardless of the tool used, and having a consistent, simple, and smooth method of sharpening is key to a long life.
An electric pull sharpener provides the exact blade angle designed by the manufacturer every time, unlike most home (and many professional) chefs when using a stone manually.
I prefer three stage and use the Trizor XV, but I know the Chefs Choice 1520 is also a very popular selection. Sure, if you are overly passionate about blades and spend a lot of time honing them this is not for you - but outside the knife hobbiest community these sharpeners are a great tool to keep your kitchen safe, and this is a very nice entry level price.
Research shows that this sharpener is $4.50 more expensive than its lowest ever price in *July 2012*. Don't let the MSRP fool you though, it normaly costs about $62 -making this sale a ~35% discount.
