I have this exact trimmer, it's about 8 years old and has worked great for me. I use it 6 months of the year about 15 minutes a week. I went ahead and bought this one, and can sell the old one for probably $50 on FB marketplace, maybe a little more and get 8 more years out of it. Thank you OP!

Tell your HOA it's a hybrid, and that they can go pound sand. WTF are they going to do, give your string trimmer an emissions test? FFS

Idk what his issue is, he sounds like a hater tbh.

But I have this trimmer. Got it two years ago and ran great the 1st year and half. Now, it's giving me issues. It dies when I turn the choke off unless I keep feathering the gas.

It's a carb problem, which is really odd since I have a bunch of equipment and use the same gas in everything (gas is ethanol free with stabil added) and none of my other equipment has issues. Have stihl chainsaws, they run fine, have echo chainsaws, also run fine, and other husqvarna trimmers, also run fine. Not sure why this one has an issue.

With that said, I'll clean or replace the carb and I'm sure it will be running fine again.
like you say it sounds like the the fuel gasket might have gotten hardened. May have been a bad batch of carb gaskets. In the lab we got some supposedly inert tygon tubing to deliver a chemical to our autoburet. Never had trouble before with the model and brand but this tubing did a oxidation of the titrant that gave wild readings. I bet if you put in a new gasket set you will be back to your old self. Motor Medic has a great tutorial on setting the gas metering valve.

Same as MichiganMatt. I've owned this exact model since 2007 (17 years). I use it about every week, or other week, for about 15 to 20 minutes. The only problem I've ever had is........ the primer bulb cracked about a year ago. I no longer prime the carburetor. I just crank the pull chord 10 times, and it will finally start. Once it starts, it runs just fine. Without the primer bulb, you essentially have to pull the chord, to get fuel to the carb.
Do these gas machines need a ton of maintenance? Never used gas one before and have no idea.

At work, we have a Stihl straight shaft and an Echo straight shaft. The Stihl is a bit heavier, but has more power. The Echo is quite a bit lighter, but doesn't have nearly the power as the Husqvarna. This Husqvarna is is the happy medium, between the Stihl and Echo.
Probably easily replaceable , it's replaceable on every carb I've worked on with a primer bulb

I think I have the same trimmer also, got in on similar deal many years ago , no issues. Works better than our FS45 which is a stihl curved shaft trimmer in a similar class engine size and weight wise.

From what I have read I think you want over 45cc for using blades instead of trimmer string and other crazy stuff

Is this 2-cycle or 4? Our HOA has a restriction on 2 cycle machines for homeowner use. Only lawn care companies can use 2-cycle, sucks we know but it is what is.

Huge fan of Husqvarna - have loved their products. For this deal I wish I needed a trimmer. I have a Dewalt battery powered 20V max brushless trimmer after I switched it from craftsman 5 years ago and still running great. If I did have an option of a lower priced Husqvarna I would have bought it in a heartbeat like this one.

The straight shaft is an added bonus for anyone who want to get underneath decks or near the corners. 28cc displacement is good enough for getting a good torque from their trimmer. Make sure to use the exact gas to oil ratio.

They require more than a battery unit.

Battery units are essentially maintenance free.

Gas units generally require some maintenance with cleaning/replacing air filters, spark plugs, and cleaning/tuning the carb. The carb one would be most complicated and not necessarily you will absolutely have to do. Using ethanol free gas goes a long way in helping small engine gas equipment stay running problem free (not still no guarantees).

If battery units work for your needs, stick with battery. Advantage to gas units is longer run time and more powerful, but a lot of quality battery units these days are more than sufficient for home owner use.

You can buy new primer bulbs, might be a headache ordering the right one for it online but a small engine mechanic would probably order it for relatively cheap
I'll get around to replacing the primer one day. It's a weird design. The bulb is built into the back of the carb. It's not the traditional bulb with hoses running to it. It's a little more work to change the bulb out on this trimmer. For now, I'll just crank it 10 times. It's a good workout.

Agreed. How are they going to know? Just tell them it's a 4 cycle unit.

I wouldn't say they need a ton of maintenance, but definitely more than a battery powered unit. If you don't have a large yard (.25 acre or less), and you don't already have 2 cycle tools, I would just look for a battery powered unit.

2 cycle needs fuel and oil mix, and change the plug and air filter every 5 to ten years. For fuel mix, you can buy pre-mixed Tru-fuel, which is incredibly expensive. Or you can mix your own. If you mix your own, make sure you're using non-ethanol gas. Ethanol gas is terrible for small engines.

Am tempted to buy this but after reading the bad reviews it reminded me of why I stopped buying gas trimmers. Many 1, 2, and 3 star reviews are just days and weeks old. The $15 replacement plan may be worth it due to the 30 day warranty. $125 fs still seems like a good deal. Then again, maybe money is better spent on another Ego bat with a three year warranty.

-Complete product replacement coverage for 1 year beyond the manufacturer's warranty.

-Products that fail during the extended coverage period will be replaced one time. A bit lame imho given they ship broken units per the reviews. Spoke with Northern Tool and the replacement tool has a 30 day warranty.

-A separate Replacement Plan must be purchased for each qualifying product purchased.

-After you purchase your Replacement Plan, you will receive your agreement via mail in approximately 2-3 weeks.

Read the 1 star reviews.

Likewise, had mine for about 5 years. Mine would over heat and often afterward be difficult to keep idle. At different times earlier in it's life I used it for trimming down wood brush and tilling rows with the attachments.

I bought an electric last week for the battery. It's super light and hopefully it will hold up for just weed whacking. I'll keep the gas one for bigger needs.

Anyone use this with a hedge trimmer attachment? If so, how well does it work? I have a large hedge and it is a pain with a corded hedge trimmer.
