You open the window and close it on the AC unit. It also has a platform it rests on

I drilled no holes and the thing can't go anywhere. It's easier than any other AC I've used and I have zero fears of dropping it out the window

Honestly confused why anyone thinks this is difficult to install especially compared to conventional styles. And especially considering how much smaller and lighter this type is

When are they coming out with a U-shaped AC with heat pump?

opposite experience. ours cooled better than anything we had prior. and we left it installed for 2 winters now. living in the northeast.. the u shape version makes that possible.

not sure what would make it a pain to uninstall though. the install for us was 10x easier than a traditional ac since it has a built in stand.

I tried researching last time the Midea inverter 8000 BTU was on sale but couldn't really find definite answer--

Any experts out there can tell me whether I can use window a/c units as through the wall? We bought a house where the previous owner converted the carport into a room and built a hole for the current a/c unit. It's pretty old and grimy so I was thinking it'd be good to buy in advance anyway. I'm in Florida--that thing is going to be run 24 hours if only to regulate humidity.
I have done it with an LG window AC. No problems after years of use. It is a typical window AC unit though, not U-shaped.

For those who do not think this is cooling enough, you can try the following:

https://www.reddit.com/r/AirCondi...verter_ac/

Seems to help for mine and I don't need to run the central air, which is like, seer 10-11 or something really not efficient, it's like from the 80s or 90s.

A normal rectangular unit would be more appropriate for through-the-wall installation. They do make efficient inverter-based window AC units that aren't U-shaped like this. I think LG's got a well-liked one.
Need sleeve style the regular ones blow air out top which is inside a wall sleeve.

bought one of these last year. DIdn't cool that good compared to regular ac's. plus installing/removing is a pain ( have to remove because I'm in the northeast. Luckily I got refunded by manufacturer. This year I'm trying the same AC but not U shaped to see if it will make a difference.
How is it pain? Just installed mine for the 3rd year, and works like a charm. It's absolutely the easiest to install, much lighter for one person and literally takes no more time than moving a chair, albeit heavier.

Highly recommend..however I do have 2 of these, one has a whine, the other is dead silent. So the common complaint of whine is real but it's nothing unbearable unless you are within 2 feet of it.

When you have to email for price it's out of my budget…

The thing about these that throws people off vs older/less efficient ACs is they modulate based on the amount of cooling needed. They virtually never run 'full chooch' unless there's a significant temperature differential between your desired/set temperature & actual room temp.

Some people don't like this, but the fact that it'll modulate itself all the way down to run quietly @ around 90W is pretty nice for keeping a space conditioned without a noisy AC frequently turning itself off & on.

I got one of these last summer, and it performed well - so well that it pretty much took over cooling my whole house and my central AC barely had to run at all.
Totally agree. These are inverter, so they won't always run at max power. But this is the way to save your electricity bill, and reduce noise.
Tip: the app have "boost mode" which will run at full power if you need to quickly cool down the room.

Great price but I need one with a Dehumidifier because it is going in a room with lots of PC parts. LOL.
Air conditioners are all incidentally dehumidifers, just not as good as purpose-built dehumidifers. But, for a single room, unless you've got a burst pipe, any air conditioner will dehumidify that space. Your cooling coils are below the dew point in your conditioned room, so indoor moisture gets pulled out of the air and accumulates on the coils, and that mostly drips into a collection pan and runs out the condensate tube to outside.

Yeah, no reason you can't use a window unit as a through wall one (that I can think of), other than that you need to be sure the top/side vents aren't blocked by the wall, and an exterior wall is typically going to be uh... at least 6-8" thick?

It was definitely a lot more difficult for me than moving a chair. Of course, I'm an idiot so maybe that's why. I switched from a portable unit (a nice LG one) to this Midea last year and it was so much quieter. I really liked it. I liked the portable as well but took up too much space. The portable was obviously a much easier install and my wife like the appearance from outside more as well.

Moving heavy objects is very personal to ones abilities. Though comparing to a non U window AC, I find it easier..

Yeah, pretty thick.
Good call on the venting and needing a sleeve. Thanks everyone.

That's literally what a heat pump is?
