You open the window and close it on the AC unit. It also has a platform it rests on

I drilled no holes and the thing can't go anywhere. It's easier than any other AC I've used and I have zero fears of dropping it out the window

Honestly confused why anyone thinks this is difficult to install especially compared to conventional styles. And especially considering how much smaller and lighter this type is

When are they coming out with a U-shaped AC with heat pump?

opposite experience. ours cooled better than anything we had prior. and we left it installed for 2 winters now. living in the northeast.. the u shape version makes that possible.

not sure what would make it a pain to uninstall though. the install for us was 10x easier than a traditional ac since it has a built in stand.

This has been working great for me as the days get hotter. We have the smaller 8000 one in the bedroom as well. Life and energy saver.
Same here. Barely affected my electric bill.

I got my 12,000 BTU unit in September 2021. I installed it into my detached, two car garage which could get to 104F in the Louisiana summer. For two summers, it had no problem keeping the garage as low as 72F, which is the lowest I ever set it. I normally kept the garage at 75F. As the heat has started this year, it is not reaching its 75F set point and barely keeping the garage at 80F. I'm worried about what will happen when the outside gets to 90+F. I noticed some ice at the bottom of the evaporator coils but even after letting that melt overnight, it's still not reaching set point and the ice is back. I checked the level and it's angled slightly back like it should be. Still trying to figure it out.

Edit: Clarified that I have have the 12,000 BTU unit that's posted in this deal.

Anything wrong with over sizing it? I have the 8000 btu from the deal earlier, but I haven't been able to test it in actual hot weather. This would be for a small 10 x 12 room. I'll return the smaller one while in the return period and get this larger one.

Do you have the 8000 btu or 12000 btu unit?

Need sleeve style the regular ones blow air out top which is inside a wall sleeve.
All the window AC units I've ever had have blown directly outward through the coils at the back... but sure, I guess if the hole has tight enough clearances, it may impact the AC's ability to cool somewhat..

Not really with an Inverter-based AC unit like this; they'll simply modulate down as needed (running quieter, consuming less power).

The problem with oversizing older non-inverter based units is that they're basically on or off.. so if you oversize them, they'll frequently cycle between on/off and that's not really good for the AC, or your sanity.

That's good to know. I only really need the 8,000 BTU unit for my small apartment but if this is cheaper I guess I should just get this?

Heads up, if you live in a humid area. These units can develop mold, happen to ours last summer even after spraying down the fan & coil with coil cleaner monthly.

If you just have a small apartment I might advise waiting for the 8k. Reviews have pointed out they're quieter, and they're also lighter to install.

Personally, I don't regret having gone for the 12k though, because like I said in my earlier post... it can basically handle keeping my entire house tolerable and effectively eliminates central AC usage, which means I spend much less money to stay comfortable.

bought one of these last year. DIdn't cool that good compared to regular ac's. plus installing/removing is a pain ( have to remove because I'm in the northeast. Luckily I got refunded by manufacturer. This year I'm trying the same AC but not U shaped to see if it will make a difference.
Eh, I have one of these installed in a 500sqft. garage in Florida and it works great. Maybe you got a defective unit. It's definitely a great product.

Solid unit, quiet, efficient and cold. Instead of spending $8k on repairing my central unit I bought 3 of these.

Year over year my electricity bills were down 100-150kwh a month in the summer.

The installation is a little tricky but take care to do a good job to make it easier for the next year.
I was quoted $5K for a 12,000 BTU split-mini and that didn't include 220V installation. I opted to just go with this unit and been pretty happy. I ended up making a custom platform out of some spare boards that fits in my window thresholds to make the yearly install a bit easier.

Ice on the evaporator coils and no cooling (as long as the coils and filter are clean) means the refrigerant charge is low and it has probably leaked out. You'll need a new unit because it's not worth it to recharge or repair.

Midea is the OEM for many manufacturers… they make solid hardware.

On your comment about heat/AC, I assume you're talking about a heat pump? I don't have experience with a window unit with a heat pump, but I have split units with heat pumps and they're fantastic… been working for years now, in less than optimal conditions (pig houses), through NY summers and winters.
Yeah...horrible ...nothing but humidity
