There are jurisdictions and private fishing ponds that ban lead fishing weights.

I wondered why in the heck they were so expensive! Thankfully I don't have any bans on lead, so I always get the good ol' South Bend drop shot weights [walmart.com] when they're in stock for less than $2.

I get the ban on lead…but tungsten seems a bit overkill on the next best choice of metal.

I understand that but it doesn't excuse the absurd pricing.

I don't know. A market economy determines the price of things. If there's a better deal, im sure people would appreciate the insight. You could buy brass or something for less, but matching lead density isn't cheap. It beats the he'll out of gold, rhodium, and palladium.

Melting point of tungsten is 6000+ degrees.

Lead is 600 degrees.

Anyone can melt and mold lead easily with very cheap setups. Not the case for tungsten.

The material cost, is not the driver of the final product cost.

So what? I never stated anything about "material cost".
