For the people complaining about the fingerprint sensors -

A really good trick is putting the same finger in twice.

I have my left thumb saved twice in my 6pro and it's fast and flawless. My other fingers take much longer to detect. Seems silly but works very well with this method.
I'm a current Google Fi user so I take advantage of the phone deals constantly. I am on the $20/month plan which charges $10 per gig of data since I'm a light data consumer. If you go with an unlimited data option, the phone deal isn't with it probably. Something like US Mobile would be more cost effective in the long term and buying the phone outright.
MKBHD said the 8 is better. Better screen, better materials, better camera sensor. However this deal is much cheaper for Google-Fi customers. I have Pixel 5a, 6a, 7 currently. Loved 5a physical finger sensor, works instantly. On-screen finger sensor on 6a and 7 are problematic for me. I switched to Moto ThinkPhone and it has been a dream to use. Think phone gets immediate security and OS updates and everything works flawlessly. Couldn't be happier.

I wonder if you can do this deal after completing the 120 days for the Samsung S24 deal

I can't think why not, I've done two Google Fi deals for s23u and p8p without issue with a gap between them

I have a 3 year old Pixel 3, works fine---only two complaints is that the battery doesn't hold a charge nearly as long as it did when new, and that Waze sometimes lags but that could be the fault of the app and/or the satellite/carrier (Google Fi) not necessarily the phone. Should I blow $300 for this 8A, why? What am I missing?

I added the same finger 3 times on my Pixel 7, and it still mostly doesn't work. Maybe works 5-10% of the time
Your screen protector likely isn't good. I add the same finger twice w/ screen protector mode on my P7P. I don't have any issues. I did have issues in the begining when I first got the phone but whatever updates Google gave to face/ fingerprint unlock fixed it.

If you are an existing customer then they show you these upfront discounts. One can become an existing customer quickly by doing the trick I mentioned in the other post.

that and the missing $100 GC other retailers are offering. Otherwise, I would get it.
Maybe they'll add something in the near future.

I did this promo with the 7a back in November. Hard to beat a free phone, no strings attached if you're switching over to Fi.

It's been a fine daily driver, though the OS has a bug where it doesn't like 3rd-party launchers like Nova. If I swipe to home, the screen freezes and I have to press the power button twice to fix. Otherwise I like it -- the camera is best in the market, and I assume the 8a improves on that.

How do they still only have 128GB?
I know, it's a freaking joke but it's how companies screw the public. No one beats apple at screwing people, but everyone else does their best.

As for the 8a, 256GB is available for $60 more and in black only. If I get one, it will be 256gb because that's going to be the bare minimum in a couple of years, and if it actually works long enough to take advantage of the OS and security updates, you'll want, er uh, make that NEED the 256gb is my guess...

I have a phone with 32gb and an SD card, and it's a constant battle. I've had to delete apps to allow updates and take more than xx pictures. Video is out of the question most times....

It's definitely time for an upgrade...

You could try to contact them and ask... Good luck with that.

Otherwise, I'd think you could test things by going through the sign up and see what it says you owe. Here's what it says for me as a Fi user...

Doesn't exclude new people from what I see.

"How to get this offer
When you buy or finance the Google Pixel 8a

Activate the phone on Fi within 30 days
The person who activates must be an existing Google Fi customer, and be part of your group plan
Remain active on the qualifying device for 120 days
Offer ends July 2, 2024 or while supplies last
Offer can only be used once per group member

But here's what happens if you cancel or pause service

Canceling service, switching devices, or leaving your account stops the promotion. The $200 discount will be charged to your Google Pay account.

I think it's the same, but with OS/software updates. Apparently it's pretty good for most things and the reason I may do this deal.

It's not the same as the 8/8 Pro though.... Who cares is my thought....

not sure why google fi plans are so bad. i get unlimited with visible for 25/month. AND my favorite part, unlimited hotspot too (altho throttled to 5mbps I believe). Since I only use this in rare home ISP outages, I was shocked how much 5 mbps can do. Even played Destiny 2 on my Series X on the hotspot with no problems! You tube is fine also IIRC I just downgrade the video quality a bit.

now its great when my internet goes out (rare) i dont have to worry about using up a very limited quantity of monthly data like i did on mint mobile.

also i tested the visible hotspot with my op 12r when i got it, just to make sure everything worked with a new phone, and not sure if a bug or something but at that time the hotspot appeared unthrottled. i was getting way over 5 mbps (iirc like 60-70 but i dont really remember) on speed tests. havent used it since.

as for the pixel, in my experience most american products, maybe excepting apple, are bad nowdays (woke?). the pixels have dim screens and use tensor chips, which are poorly engineered and give poor battery life. that said i think my sister has the 7 pro or 8 pro or whatever, and it seems nice from a glimpse from the side lol.

Happy Fi customer here, the service is great, unlimited data is cheap when you share with a few people. They did raise the price recently, so it's not $22 a month any more, but it's still about $27 a month, so not bad. Pixel phones have been great for my family. I've had Apple products and Samsung but the Pixels just get out of the way and work like they should. None of us have ever had problems with the fingerprint readers, but I understand some people have different chemistry or something that makes in-screen reader more difficult. I'll probably trade in wife's 6a for the 8a eventually, but hoping for better trade-in values at some point.

The real reason is definitely not that. Manufacturers want to get as much $ as they can from the folks who can afford higher end phones. That's why you see iPhone (even Pro), Samsung S series and Pixel (including Pro) launch with 128GB of storage. Let's not pretend like users don't need anything over 128GB of local storage.

i dont.
