Of course, no one enjoys losing money, and I have confirmation from a friend who works at Google's Chelsea location (on android, not on voice, so I take the gossip with a grain of salt) that GV makes they very little money, and as a result, is one of those products which could disappear at any moment. But I heard that same thing over 14 years ago.
Better a devil you know than a devil you dont.

They bought it from grand central I think
I have been looking forever for a paid alternative which had the level of polish (which isnt much, if you know how buggy GV is) as GV, but nothing comes close at any price. There are services which will pick up calls for you, forward for you, and let you text through them...but none of them will do all of that simultaneously. Since I use the product for business, it warrants actually paying for, but GV for business offers no tangible difference for me (besides human support). It is easily worth $5-10 a month for me.
I can't seem to get tetherfi work. Have been searching or other hotspot options.
I use a variety of prepaid deals that I pick up at entry level deals and experiment with without even giving that number out. I consider it a data only device, I don't even bother forwarding the calls and I don't get the number out to any.
The only exception is there are some verifications that won't stop the Google voice number but it's extremely rare and The benefits you get from relying on Google voice full time or so much better.
Not to mention Google voice works in any place with a good internet connection whereas someone like me T-Mobile and AT&t will barely work at all in my house.

Gv does have issues with some banks and other companies that do not allow for voip/landline numbers for 2FA.
See how many times you run into issues with verification because I almost never do. And then while you're at it starts shopping and realize that you can get introductory rates all the time on prepaid deals.
Right now I'm paying 20 bucks for 6 months of coverage on a phone number I will never give out to anyone and it doesn't matter because my doctors and government agencies and everybody else can reach me on my Google voice number with no problem
Before you s*** on it give it a try. Pretty much guarantee you it would save you hundreds of dollars a year
thanks
This method saves me thousands of dollars a year and the only time there's some kind of verification issue is such an infrequent occurrence that I can't even remember the last time it happened to me.
So yeah once every million years you might have to use your other number to verify something. Or, find an alternative service that supports Google voice of which one almost certainly exists
99.9% of the time no one knows it's a Google voice number to begin with.
That way you can take advantage of all the introductory rates you want, are always able to get in touch with even if your phone bill runs out...
As someone that's been doing this for years now I can tell you that the hiccups are minimal, way less than it was actually dealing with carriers constantly and having to watch introductory prices drop and all of that.
Nothing is perfect here you really are dealing with annoying carriers with convoluted porting systems or once and every 6 months you might have to verify a number outside of your Google voice account.
Not a bad deal to save hundreds of dollars a year and give yourself tons of flexibility on trying new MV&O's out
So if nothing else this company has proved to me that inside my house verizon-based MDNOs are the way to go

Hi tom

21:50
Hello, How May i assist you?
21:51
I am purchasing your prepaid sim card from Amazon. However I have iPhone 15 which only accepts esim. How can I use your service?

21:51
Thank you for your interest in Infimobile services. In this case, we need to activate your physical SIM card first. After activating the physical SIM card, we can then convert it to eSIM.
21:52
Ok. How do we activate the SIM card ?
Is there a charge to convert physical to esim?

21:53
After receiving the SIM card, please visit our website at https://infimobile.com/activate to activate your physical SIM card. Once you have activated the physical SIM card, please contact us to convert it into an eSIM.
21:54
There is no charge for converting a physical SIM to an eSIM.
I don't know anyone, even among iPhone users, that is happy that the physical SIM card tray has been removed from their phone.
Personally I would never buy a phone without a SIM card tray. I'm glad this is one trend that hasn't caught on and probably never will because not having a SIM tray put makes people more inclined to stay with one phone and one carrier... Samsung and Google in OnePlus need people to switch to participate in the market share so they're going to keep having physical sims.
Sadly anyone who bought an iPhone 15 in the United States or an iPhone 14 is going to have to run any of these issues and will be limited in their ability to play around with smaller carriers or the international market.
I knew people that had to set up an entirely separate phone and phone number when they went traveling just because of his nonsense from Apple.
And it's just terrible for people that like to use a lot of different phones and swap Sims. People that review tech or carrier plans . People that like to try different phones or import phones etc...
This is one of the many reasons I just avoid Apple products now. Last thing I want is to get locked into their system. Especially when they're going out of their way to make it uniquely bad for Americans and we don't have the EU to protect us
