Been keeping an eye on these and happened to check the price today. Haven't seen it go on sale recently and wish I was ready to pull the trigger.

$500-800 for Dirac Live + Bass Control... Then there's also Dirac Live Room Correction that's coming....

Since Onkyo comes with Dirac Live, I'd probably go that route if I had to do it again.

From personal experience I would wait for the 3800 to hit $1k again(almost there).
The audible difference between it and this is minimal, with external amp good luck noticing a difference.

The advantages/gains over the RZ50:
DLBC option, possibly ART in the future.
4 independent sub outs vs 2 parallel.
Pre amp mode for all 11 channels independently.
All channels are assignable.
No power limiting issue with 4 & 6 ohm speakers.
New directional sub integration, same concept as DLBC.

Pretty much what they added on the RZ70 with exception only 2 independent sub outs, pre amp mode only for L/R fronts OR all channels & unlikely no option for ART.

IF you find you do need Dirac, both are right there.
Wait until December when Dirac regularly offers a 30% discount and get both for $560!
DLBC is well worth the cost imo.
At that price nothing comes close!

If anyone is open to open box from a credible authorized seller, SS has this for $1699.

I paid for DLBC and have it running m ysetup right now. I turn it off for movies and I can barely hear a difference between Dirac Live vs. DLBC on music.

I haven't had the time to recalibrate but i spent at least 4-5 hours setting it up several times trying to calibrate it perfectly. DL is amazing, but DLBC in my situation wasn't a game changer and made my movies sound flat and totally lost the kick/feel of a home theatre (dual Klipsch SPL-120's)

So much for people claiming DLBC is a game changer! Looks like I'm not missing out on much with only Dirac Live...

Not surprised it's confusing for many people. Not sure what you were expecting but this is what DLBC offers:

Bass Management: Dirac Live filters are designed such that each subwoofer in the arrangement contributes equally to matching the drawn target curve.
A system with 1 subwoofer will adjust this subwoofer so that it matches the curve, while a system with 2 or more subwoofers will scale the volume (or gain) of each subwoofer so that they collectively add up to provide the drawn response.
However, it will not consider any destructive interference between the speakers.
Bass Control: Dirac Live filters harmonize the subwoofers and non-subwoofer speakers in the lower frequencies using tailor-made phase filters, delays, and gains."

I highly recommend watching this video.
Renowned AV professional worked directly with Dirac for these tips and tricks.

1. Watch calibration setup starting at around 5:00, covers common confusion/mistakes.
2. Starting at around 12:00 he covers what you are probably talking about, it's common because often people never heard it before.
3. Starting at around 15:30 he starts explaining differences between DL & DLBC and how to use it.

Another suggestion with two subs place front/back or left/right depending on layout.

I would also try the Directional sub setting in Audyssey, works much like DLBC.

Hope it helps and good luck.

I don't know where you looked for guidance but the best places to ask for questions are in owner's threads or threads specifically for Dirac:

I bought it back in January/February, I haven't gotten around to touching it since. I might give it a go again in a few months lol, but I did spend a lot of time researching and trying to set it up correctly the first time I did it. But for my relatively square it really killed the boominess I would enjoy in home theatre (try Blade Runner 2049 intro on a TrueHD/DTS-MA sound track).

It sounds completely gutted even after I put +10-15db on both subwoofers (which just makes it louder but loses the boominess). I just switch back to Audyssy during films.

If I show you this target curve, does it mean anything to you?

Beyond what I was asked to adjust during the DLBC setup, not particularly. Looks like that curve is for speakers and not subwoofers.

FYI, I attached my two target curves for my subwoofers and Front Left, Front Right for reference.

The picture is showing a target curve w/a nominal +6 dB boost towards the back end (far left). This type of "Harman curve" w/a slope upwards towards the LFE is supposedly better for human ears and is typically preferred over a "flat" response. It will restore much of the midbass that is missing when you listen to movies/music. Your final Dirac filter for your speakers should look like this.

You had also mentioned increasing DB for your SW. Did you do your "boosting" of the SW via:
a) Dirac itself
b) AVR setting
c) Gain knob on the SW
d) All of the above

Slickdeals is not the best place to receive this type of help. Did you try any of the AVS links I posted?

Edit: Just saw your pics. Looks like you have a +10dB slope for the speakers but I can't tell where your crossover is at. Did you leave it at the default 70 Hz and forget to hit Calculate?
