But does it run on modern hardware? Typically remasters are made to be compatible with modern PCs, in addition to graphics enhancements. If you look at the requirements, the remastered is compatible up to Windows 10 (and I'd assume Win11 also), whereas the original is only compatible up to Win8.

Of course it runs on modern hardware. Why wouldn't it?

The remaster is sloppy and is worse than the original. It only improves the models. Mods make the original so much better than the remastered.

In the words of one reviewer, "Just play the original port with mods, this version is missing Chocobo World, and also doesn't even have stretch widescreen support, much less actual widescreen support. The port is similarly trash, but only mildly less so. Supposedly you can even import saves, but what's the point when you can just play a version that can be modded to look even better?

With the Tonberry mod loader and the list of mods on PCGamingWiki, the original version, modded, actually looks better than this remaster. It's not as night and day as, say, Moguri Mod, but it's a huge step up from the original visuals.

Apparently this version is much harder to mod in general, so even if you're just interested in gameplay mods, it's the worse deal.

Also, needing to tediously use Angelo Search for the Chocobo World items is a pretty big downgrade over actually being able to play the minigame like in the original port. It's still on Steam, it's literally cheaper, just buy that instead. It's still a trash port but it's not much worse than this one."

Another reviewer says. "Good game, definitely a lackluster Remaster. Baffled by how bad some of the things in this game look as this is packaged as a remaster. Yes a lot of things look more polished and clean than the OG. But when you can literally buy the original FF8 port for almost $10 cheaper and you can mod it to be just as good if not better that's kind of sad. Biggest gripe for me is this was released in 2019 and this game doesn't support the analog stick or have rumble bro 💀💀💀. Features the PS1 version had in 1999 💀💀💀💀💀💀"

Good to know. A lot of old games don't work on modern PCs or would run really poorly, so a lot of these remasters would also address this.
