Be sure to watch the Gamers Nexus video on Asus, and do research before you purchase ANY Asus product. There RMA department has been allegedly incredibly shady. I have no experience with it as I don't purchase Asus products, but as a warning to consumers to do the due diligence make sure to do your research.

WARNING: DO NOT BUY ASUS RIGHT NOW until they publicly address their RMA shenanigans.

I own a GL702VM. It came with a 128GB SSD. I swapped it out with a 512gb NVME ssd. When doing that I reloaded windows as I wanted to be sure it was clean. After a few years I took the BIOS update from Windows Updates. Since my primary drive had been replaced, the BIOS would no longer allow me to boot from the SSD that had been the boot drive for years. Years. When I say boot, I mean, 4 beeps and no display. Dead. D.E.D dead.

I contacted Asus as to what to do, and all they could do was tell me to reboot, and hold the power button down, etc. Nothing worked. Then they quoted me like $800 to fix it as 'the motherboard must be bad'. I went on Ebay, found the exact same BIOS chip programmed from a third party. Purchased one of the BIOS readers on Amazon after reading that you can program it as long as you don't have power to the motherboard. I read the chip from the third party vendor, and flashed the bios chip in the laptop to a very old BIOS. Fired right up.

They continue to have that BIOS on Windows update. If an unsuspecting consumer who upgraded a pretty useless drive on a $1600 laptop updates it, they may brick their machine. Even after explaining all of this to Asus and doing the process over the phone with them, they failed to assist at all. They deliberately have a BIOS version out on Windows update that has the potential of bricking the laptop. I will never buy another Asus product.

Laptop still runs fine if I ignore their 'recommended' update. Planned obsolescence. Such a dirty practice.

The only reason you should buy this instead of the ASUS TUF A16 that's the same price and posted along side this, is if you don't care about gaming and want the laptop to be 2 pounds lighter. Other than that, the A16 is a way better deal.

Also, pretty dirty of them to put starfield in the thumbnail like this laptop would get anywhere near that.
I'll keep an eye out for the 16". I need a full keyboard.

why would anyone buy this? I got the X13 with the RTX 3050 Ti that can be turned on and off for $800 last year.

unless this comes with an RTX card, I have no idea why anyone would want this

Is this faster than the z1 extreme on rog ally or legion go for low resolution casual gaming?
Z1E = 7840U.

You won't notice a difference in performance. All three are about on par and very fast.

You might notice a difference in battery life.

Can anyone speak to build quality and keyboard?

Ive been using thinkpads since forever. On a X1 Carbon Gen 9 now.

The only other laptop ive considered was a G14 - really like the size, weight and quality.

How does this compare?

Integrated graphics are fine for me.
i have this laptop as well as thinkpads before and im using a thinkpad KU1255 keyboard for my desktop comp as im typing as we speak. Nothing compares to a ibm keyboard but thats not to say this one is that much far off. Its got good feedback and travel in my opinion and feels great also. Ive also considered the G14 but really wanted the 2in1 for my graphics work and no other 2in1 comes with graphics as close as this even if its integrated. Been playing COD WW2 just fine and suits my purposes. Quality is great on this laptop. For casual titles, id ignore all the comments of "i dont get why this laptop is called a gaming laptop".

I think i posted on the previous threads on this laptop when it was on sale that my only gripes on this laptop is mostly software related and that it weirdly boots into the bios on its own sometimes and sometimes (probably a windows thing) the search bar doesnt work. It is also slow to connect to wifi when booted into windows. Most laptops i have have instant internet connections once in windows, this one however i have to wait a min before browsing.

Gamers Nexus made a negative video about literally every option. MSI Gigabyte Lenovo Acer Amazon Newegg. If you're going to cancel every company soon there will be none left. Asus is just the current punching bag until another one comes along and everybody forgets about it.

Except gamers nexus made update videos showing how the companies responded and it's one of the few ways that can hold companies accountable for bad business practices.

Well I would like to see you try to hold a company accountable from doing shady business practices. We will be waiting here for your solution to the problem. At least he's trying to do investigation and he gives these companies opportunities to respond and try to rectify the problem.

i totally agree with that. but literally all the other companies are just as scummy as asus. so now we are supposed to let lenovo or acer off the hook for their over the top anti consumer crap now. smh. no, thats not how this works.

Is there anything inaccurate about the Gamers Nexus video? Didn't think so. Move on and stop shilling for corporations like they're the cool kids you're trying to impress at school.

i know who gamers nexus is but because i see them referenced a lot on reddit but ive never watched them. but i know according to reddit and gamers nexus, never buy anything apple, dell, lenovo, acer, framework, because of whatever they did. so now we are adding asus to that list, which is fine. but im questioning what else is the option? sounds like you might be shilling for one of those other companies. and to be fair this isnt a good deal anyways, too small laptop, inferior cpu, etc.
