Unicorn. Seems like $80 is about the right price for this anyway.

This price only pertains to the blue model which is OOS everywhere in central FL. They have black ones, however, but it is reg price. Going to try to see if they will honor that pic with the black model.

I picked up this HP 14-dq0706tg as it was the cheapest unit on the market that came with Windows 11 & a Touchscreen the Holiday season of 2023 for my mom. While I observed the 2 star overall review, I took a chance because of it's well rounded features. 1st power on cycle required a prayer, it was slower than 2 snails. Operational Speed was a F, matter of fact it was in the F-- range. I'm talking BONE STOCK, Out of the BOX, slower than a 20yr old Core2Duo. By God's grace I'm an Electronics Tech, and upgraded the unit to 8GB DDR4. This did the trick, taking the Operational Speed from a F-- to a solid C. HP/Target should either A) LOWER THE PRICE to $149.99 or B) Include 8GB from OEM for a Basic Computing Experience. The Windows OS alone requires 4GB+ to run, as soon as you begin to use the unit... System freeze, programs taking a lifetime to load & that's a Very Poor Customer Experience. This unit is best for someone who rarely uses the PC, who is not in a rush but it's well built, and economical.

As a techie, the specs for this system are offensive. It literally hurts knowing a new machine this slow exists and people will expect to be productive with it.

Spoiler: You won't be productive with it.

Agreed but this can also be used as a thin client for another more powerful PC. With something like moonlight you could even stream games quite well given that the CPU is capable of hardware transcoding hevc video streams. Or you could use it as a Chromebook replacement with a lightweight linux OS.

If this is like recent HP laptops I've run across, one of the things slowing it down the most is the bloated McAfee Antivirus that comes preinstalled. Just uninstall it, right? You can't. They've purposely made it so it can't be uninstalled. A family member bought one of these and it was dreadfully slow. I ended up formatting and installing a fresh copy of Windows 11 and it was much, much faster.

I'll be productive on anything I like.
"as a techie" you should remember core 2 duo laptops. Were people productive on them? Or did people magically get productive

Lol. This laptop has double the processing power from a Core 2 Duo E8400. And to think that that CPU was released in 2006. To say that you were productive on a CPU from 2006 in 2006, that's understandable. You really expect with all enhancements that that 18 year old CPU will hold up with todays apps? I mean.. you do you... and I'll be over here with something that benchmarks 10 times faster 25,000 vs 2470 on passmark).

To stand by @oddlike7, it is indeed offensive that companies are passing this off as new for $230... when it has a processor that was good two decades ago.

Yeah, I totally remember manufacturers selling brand new 386 SX-16s at the same time Core2s were on the market. Those were the days.

This would **probably** make a descent, very cost effective little plex server with a NAS as storage.
