I believe on my account (at least) you can just add a line and get either the 8 or the 8a for free and then cancel the original line. If that doesn't work I'm just gonna leave T-Mobile and buy the phone when it hits $350. The 8a is a downgrade from the 6 slower charging, cheaper build weaker battery life and no reverse wireless charging and smaller screen no way I would trade it for that. I'm either gonna get this phone free or just get cheaper service personally. Def not signing a contract and doing a trade in

Edit: Apparently the previous anti-semitic conspiratorial post was deleted so now I look like the crazy one.
I was right according to the T-Mobile website, it says free if you add a line OR trade in an eligible device. So you add a line and then cancel the original line and trade in nothing. If this doesn't work I'll just leave T-Mobile and buy the phone when the price goes down. Simple there is no need to trade in a device and sign a contract for a plastic budget phone 🥺

I have to call every month to get credit owed to me on my trade for pixel 7 pro. I traded my like brand new Samsung Note 10+ for $800 credit with Sprint. And they goofed it up and only applied 400 credit. Also, they don't even have any record of the contract or original email. And there is no way to send across the email to T-Mobile CS.
Yes there trade in by mail is done by a third party company and these horror stories are always happening with them, I've had one before and since then I always go into a store and haven't had an issue since.
