There was a whole series on Gamers Nexus that spoke about how Nvidia was screwing over their channel and that case/mobo/PSU was more profitable and hence a few of these companies decided to get out of the GPU game. I'd go check it out they did a great job explaining the situation and perhaps you can grant grace to them.
Seems reasonable to exit an unprofitable business to STAY in business.
The thermal protection circuit has been added to the 12VHPWR PCIe
connector on the PSU side. If the 12VHPWR cable is not correctly
connected to the PSU 12VHPWR PCIe connector, the circuit will activate
protection when temperature anomalies are detected. Additionally, the
rating wattage of 12VHPWR is 600W. If the Graphic card draws
overcurrent during heavy load, the circuit will also activate
protection when temperature anomalies are detected by 12VHPWR PCIe
connector on PSU.
One of the other benefits of the FTW series PSU is the transformer, LLC/PFC/SR
MOSFETs and main capacitors are optimized and higher-graded than XC.
EVGA is most certainly a dying company and anyone watching the tech news can see it. That plus the recent "we changed the pinout on our modular cables for the same series psu and didn't change the model number so have fun frying all your computer parts and we won't pay till it gets in the news" scandal is the exact reason I just bought the Seasonic psus that were listed here a few days ago to proactively replace my EVGA ones while they still have some resale value.
So yeah. Stay away.

I wouldn't bother with buying any EVGA products as they are close to being dead as a company. I used to be a huge fan and now its sad seeing what they have become after leaving GPU business.

I heard about EVGA exiting the GPU side of things but haven't read/heard of additional layoffs like you described. Where did you read about this? I'm curious to know because I like others have thought EVGA to be continued reputable but if it's true, they are becoming a skeleton operation.

They've since fired the vast majority of their non-GPU department workers as well. It was all just an excuse for the owner of EVGA to retire without having to sell the company.

Their entire motherboard team has been let go and they now have a skeleton team running sales and anything warranty related.

Word of EVGA's demise, which must be taken with a grain of salt, comes from a Korean forum. According to Wccftech, an overclocker that goes by the moniker Safedisc posted that all 170 employees of the company's Taiwan operation have resigned in advance of an anticipated shutdown of the company's motherboard business. The post merely states all employees have left, including its in-house overclocking guru Kingpin, as they await what they see as an inevitable announcement. This information is yet to be verified by anyone at EVGA, and the company's operation in Spain told TechPowerUp they are still operating like normal. KingPin has also not released any statements thus far. "
So, without confirmation, Extremetech repeating a forum post makes me skeptical. EVGA was very clear about no longer making video cards.

Everyone who has ever worked with at or for EVGA has a pretty iron clad NDA. At the end of the day it's all speculation in general.
